What’s going on with the promotions and demotions? After all the anxiety from the phase 1 and 2 layoffs, the people who stayed were split into 3… Some lucky people got promoted, while most made lateral moves. And quite a few were demoted. Should I expect that anyone can be promoted or demoted anytime without much control? I've even seen some experienced senior leaders in the 50 or 55 bands being downgraded to 45 or 40, now reporting to newly promoted 40 or 45 folks. Are we following other companies’ HR practices? It all seems pretty random

Putting Nike on Walmart shelves would be one way to increase sales.
To the point below, Nike’s HR is a total joke and is a big part of what holds the company back. The head of HR seemingly isn’t accountable to anyone and, save for two years at the beginning of her career, has no other real world experience. There’s something to be said for promoting internally, but something else for seasoned leaders who understand best practices in their field. Rot starts at the top of HR and that trickles down in the form of a sh---y CFE process, nepotistic hiring practices, and an obsession with DEI metrics but none of the actual root causes of these being addressed. Nike is a marketing company and it’s all about marketing and optics. We’re having a cultural and identify crisis at the moment and HR leadership are failing us big time by failing to do their part.
Nike has no HR process that is there for any real purpose. If you are an extremely good brown noser but a total id--t you will get promoted. It’s a vicious cycle of id--ts promoting id--ts. Nike has succeeded on the strength of its brand alone. The brand is failing & will be on discount shelves at Wal-Mart before you know it.
HR practices here are in no way tied to industry best practices. Its a free for all based on favoritism, nepotism and the occasional sprinkle of ageism. Reading all of these messages here on the forum, i'm truly saddened about what this place once was and what it is now. A former shell of itself, with no energy, dissolving culture, kool aid that no longer tastes sweet. I hope the ELT is proud of what is has accomplished in a few short years. They should all be replaced
I’ve been at Nike for a while and while we can try and deny favoritism, it’s still there. If you want to get promoted, it’s not about the quality of work, it’s about likability, positivity and self promotion.
And I’m not a negative person; it’s like I said above, I’ve been at nike for 25 years, and it’s the same pattern or trend, over and over.
