I'm so tired of constant layoff news. Can we go a single month without having to go through the torture of waiting to hear if we got "lucky" or not and still have a job? It's tiring, it's mentally exhausting, and it's too much. When will it finally be enough? I miss the times when we had one major layoff round a year but at least we knew we were good the rest of the time.

it will never end. they have done as far back as the 90's and they use it as a management tool. so it will never stop no matter how many employees are left because the management has there heads where the sun doesn't shine.
You are right, I was surplussed a while back and under the contractual work rules was offered another job in the same area, just a different organization. Still here after 25+ years, there are options when surplussed before shown the door. The union is totally worth the dues to have a bargained contract with set work rules and benefits.
Comment - Wait a minute==I have paid around $20K in union dues....
I am going to say they did, the horse may not be white, maybe tan or off white. T wanted to change the way pension plan was going to be calculated, reduce overall health care, even worse plan when you retire, even changing the rule of 75 to a 80 or 85, T's new project plan did not go over well with the union, voted down. Needless to say from my understanding things will move forward with a 3 year contract and T decided to scale back on what they thought they were going to move forward with, and those things mentioned above will not go forward. Can't say the same for managers, there will a restructuring across the board, some management shaking in their loafers. There will still be changes and layoffs but less damaging than anticipated, merging groups, less management, management covering larger area and so on.
"Wait a minute==I have paid around $20K in union dues over my time with T. Isn't the CWA supposed to ride in on a white horse and save our jobs?"
100%. I was recently surplussed. Ended up with a better job and didn't have to move.

They have promised to get the debt ratio down to a 2.5 level by the first half of next year. Until that happens the stock price will continue to have problems imo. Plus this company would like to exceed that timeframe and be able to tell Wall Street to change the terminology from first half to first quarter. I would bet they a penciled in a number to achieve that. Lots of moving parts but (on paper) they have made some progress on the revenue side but not enough to dig out of hole they are in.
the Boomer comment what do you mean if it wasn't for the people who paved the way you might not even have a path to walk down
What's happening on Friday?
It is already out there, big changes for the new year, new contract. About 30,000 gone actual workers and management. T cutting costs, maybe not where they should but they won't slit their own wrist. Management levels being cut, Healthcare costs going down on T end and up on ours. That new coach app downloaded on phone sounds like AI manager or to walk snowflakes through their day. Words like industry trends, operational efficiency, streamline, ESG, CSR, improving performance metrics, enhancing technology, simplify and automate operations, those are all feel good words to protect the company not employees.
Ok Boomer. You should all hang it up. You boomers have destroyed everything in this country.
After you are gone.
Welcome back my friend to the Layoff show that never ends!!
Get rid of unneeded workers. Right size the company.
Wish they would continue laying off in BCSS under Townes: Snyder, Doiawack, Malone, Ramos, Baniatas, Del Castillo all need to go! That group of people are insufferable!
"Friday is coming."
Other than this being a frontrunner for a dirty movie title, a friday layoff notice isn't possible. We all know 6/25 letters are coming out for wave 2.
Friday is coming.
I started in 1984 at AT&T IS. I should have kept track of how many cuts I survived
Word to all new employees, get your three years in then plan to be laid off. The days of cradle to grave employment at at&t is no longer relevant.
Me getting laid off is a given. They just need to tell me when it's going to happen. I can't quit because that would leave money on the table that I need so I gotta wait it out.
Big news coming...Friday
60 thousands employees has to go by end of 2025, about 3000 a month
It is very important for the business to keep a balanced financial sheet. It’s not a charity
Craft has been hit with surpluses the last 30 years.
"Welcome to the party pal!"
We had them for the 34 years of my career. Right out of college until I retired.
You're on a site devoted to layoff news and are complaining about too much layoff news? Do you see the lack of irony?
you realize you can stop "checking in", yes?
The answer is NO! It's always layoff time at AT&T. SBC management doesn't understand anything else. The sh-t shown will continue until EVERYONE gets their Shank!
Totally agree!! The not knowing is horrible. I am waiting for 6/14 SE surplus to see if it’s my turn. So over it just tell me and I will happily move on.
Layoffs have been part of the business for the past 25 years. When you have horrible leadership team with no vison and a failed M&A strategy, this is what you get. My suggestion is to get out of the Telcom industry, dead end job.
Layoffs will never stop, even after reaching the desired threshold of 80K employees.
Lay off Stankey and replace him with a box of rocks.

No.
Layoffs are part of AT&T’s business model. The layoffs will not be stopping. I know it’s stressful but enjoy your check and smother any thoughts of long term employment at AT&T.
