CVS seeks private equity funding to open new Oak Street sites

CVS Health is seeking an investor to fund the expansion of Oak Street Health, Bloomberg reported May 23.

Sources familiar with the matter told Bloomberg CVS has reached out to a handful of private equity firms about a joint venture to add new clinic sites.

CVS Health acquired Oak Street Health, a chain of primary care clinics that caters to Medicare beneficiaries, for $10.6 billion in 2023. CVS operates more than 200 Oak Street clinics in 25 states, according to Bloomberg. CVS has opened 31 new clinics since acquiring Oak Street.

According to Bloomberg, clinics like Oak Street tend to lose money in the first few years of operating as they acquire patients. Sources told Bloomberg a potential joint-venture could help CVS avoid keeping these losses on its balance sheet.

CVS Health declined to comment to Bloomberg.

So basically CVS wants someone else to take the hit (the losses) until maybe potentially oak street possibly becomes profitable? What fool of an investment firm would take such a risky move? The article was clear that CVS wants to keep the losses off its balance sheet, and give them to someone else. I wonder why that is. Maybe it's because if CVS takes any more losses, Wall St. will abandon ship?

Besides the way CVS runs things, there is NO way Oak Street becomes profitable. Now that CVS is in charge of things, they'll cut hours and tell Oak St, you have too much staff, we gotta cut that down to 1 doctor, 1 nurse, and 1 secretary per location. With double the amount of workload and triple the metrics you gotta meet under the threat of losing your job.

Such a great investment! Humana dumped them and then KL’s stupid self over pays for Humana’s sloppy seconds, now wants to drag investors down the toilet with CVS.

For the love of all that is good in this world, fire the C suite already, especially KL!!!!
