It’s been my observation that a big problem with the toxic environment is middle management and supervisors. They left the career path that developed marketable skills long ago and/or never did have them so they jumped on the management merry go round.
Since they don’t have any skills to get another job outside of Exxon Mobil they have become masters of playing the game including performance review season. They su-k up to management like little piglets on the te-t and protect each other due to their shared incompetence and quickly circle the wagons for top management in an effort to get a cherry tipped on their ice cream.
Even good people get su-ked up in this vicious system and quickly get put in their place.
If you are a supervisor/ middle management (we know you look at this site), ask yourselves what skills have I developed recently that make me employable outside the company for the same pay or better?
And why do people with desirable skills keep leaving?
For those wondering, yeah I bailed years ago and took a better paying job with a much better work environment.
