Thread regarding CVS layoffs

Laid off and reapplying?

Has anyone that was laid off last year applied for another position? One was recommended to me on LinkedIn and I’m considering it. Are they hiring laid off employees? Would it be best to go through an old coworker?

Below poster: I totally agree. We are no more than discarded trash to them. Many of us were labeled on separation paperwork as being laid off due to performance issues. Without having one notification of said issue documented. I believe this was placed in there so as to not have to hire us back and stave off lawsuits for age related discrimination.

This place is toxic and it’s top down. Sh-t rolls down hill as they say.

I applied to a lower position after layoff for the only reason to show CVS's lack of interest in case of a challenge to my non-compete agreement. Other than that (or as one poster said to waste CVS resources) there is no reason to reapply. Have some dignity and grace and be thankful you came out on the other side of the CVS rapids. HR is looking out for their jobs as well, and they are not going to go to bat for a resource that has been labeled as undesirable. Sorry if that is harsh, but its reality and everyone needs to put this chapter behind them and move on.

Very strange they don’t want laid off employees to return. You’d think that they would prefer somebody familiar with the company and (in some cases), product.

My previous position (with the job description that I wrote) has been reposted 9 times since I was laid off. And I applied 9 times. And 9 times I was rejected without an initial HR interview. I think laid-off employees are not welcome back.

I was laid off too and while I'm still expecting to land else where I am keeping my options open. That said, I applied to eight different positions. A couple at the same level and others below. I feel I was well qualified for all of them. I had 1 interview with the recruiter then quickly rejected out of hand by the hiring manager. I had another go through Hireveu which I found to be a tad embarrassing given I was a +20 yr employee. I'd like to think they would give preferential treatment to good employees, but they don't even try or care. I'm certain their first priority is fill these positions from within first (to enable internal promotions, etc). The most frustrating part is being ghosted. that has happened more than I care to mention. It doesn't speak well of a company that touts "bringing our heart to every moment" At this point, I'm simply applying to waste their time, collect material for a lawsuit all while I see how many times they reject me. FKL!

Typically you forfeit severance if you apply and a position is offered and you decline it. Just keep in mind/

Key note. Had to have assistance to get back in. I reapplied to something that I should have easily been a great fit, actually over qualified, just to see what would happen. Yeah, no response, ghosted.

Once they have laid you off, they do not tend to call you back, unless you have a connection.

Sad but true...

I had an employee last year who got laid off and i helped him to apply for a different internal position he eventually got. Everyone has their own reasons why they want or not want to work at CVS.

Think of it as a ‘stop gap’ keep looking and find an organization that values you. Also bear in mind many of these positions, though open and employees facing layoffs are supposed to be made priority for interviews, it doesn’t happen too often and/or the hiring manager already has someone in mind and/or the recruiters never get back to you.

If you need it to survive apply and then keep applying to other companies while back at CVS. Just hold off updating any profiles mention CVS

Thank you, Retwear. I’ll hold off for a bit and see what happens with it.

The job you’re looking at could be gone soon. A email came out earlier this week stating that open positions would be evaluated.

Because I have a family that needs medical care, food and a roof over their head. Before now I wouldn’t have considered it, but circumstances change.

Run fast and far from CVS..... nobody in their right mind would want to work for this place.

Why would you go back to the company who said they didn't want you?
