Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Exec visit - the future of work in NJ

The 3 Musketeers are confirmed as visiting Bedminster next week.

The ‘New’ Bedminster is just a temporary location in the short term. Once the Bedminster site population falls low enough thru layoffs and attrition, they will consolidate the remaining groups to Middletown Building A. Bedminster is leased space, AT&T owns Middletown building A; it’s being restacked at present. Paramus isn’t long for this world either. Long term, AT&T may keep Middletown building A up and running in NJ, but that would be about it. If the decision was made to close Middletown and leave NJ altogether, that would require more time, as there are projects run out of Middletown that are sensitive and require certain architecture to support. If you want to move that out of state, it will take time and effort.

If you work for T in New Jersey please refrain from making any big ticket purchases. Your lives are going to change immensely, your future is in Dallas Texas, yeehaw! Stankey, Legg, and McElfresh are coming to nose around, they want to see what you have under your fingernails. Bottom line, this is the beginning of the end for T employees in New Jersey.

Move all of these so called brainiacks to Dallas Texas now. These cats are a waste of company cash. What have they done for us lately? What have they done in the last 10 years for T? Time to contract out all R&D, let's pay by the piece, big savings!

Somebody said: "These are our advanced STEM degree lab and developers that can only be found in this area of the country. [. . .]
Middletown isn’t going anywhere."

This is comically delusional. Yeah, there are no developers outside NJ. Meta, Google, and Apple fly them in fresh daily like sushi. But I do agree Middletown isn't moving--it's AT&T that is moving. There, I fixed it for you.

Most tech talent is still in NJ or least what is left of it.

“T does not favor the state specific labor laws in NJ that were passed not long ago. They want out.”

This doesn’t make any sense. The labor laws in NJ are designed to prevent large companies from laying off their employees and taking the work to other states.

If ATT were to close NJ, they’d owe us all more than any other ATT employee. Therefore, the NJ labor laws ONLY serve as a deterrent to laying us off, not keeping us employed.

“Under the amended law in 2023, employers are required to pay all terminated employees severance of one week of pay for each year of employment even if they provide the full requirement of 90 days' notice. If an employer fails to give a full 90 days' notice, they must pay an additional four weeks of pay to the employee.”

Stank doesn't want out of Middletown. The 3 amigos are staying in an ocean-front spa hotel.

Let the rest of you eat cake.

If these STEM employees are so important why don't they have new inventions every week like the old "Bell Labs"? I think these cats are totally overrated!

Are you crazy? Stankey doesn't want a bunch of Indians and Chinese invading his ivory tower. He may ship them all to Dallas but not to 1 att plaza. They won't be in New Jersey for long, pack your bags people, your new location is Dallas Texas!

The talent is Dallas is no comparison for the tri state area.

Now if this were an oil drilling company and you needed some roughnecks, then ok.

All these STEM and advanced degree employees need to be in Dallas. Why delay? Move them to 1 att plaza now, there is no good reason for these employees to be in New Jersey.

You failed at even providing known details. They’re meeting in Middletown not Bedminster.

Btw, Middletown is 90% Indian 8% Chinese and 2% other.

These are our advanced STEM degree lab and developers that can only be found in this area of the country. In addition we have an entire floor of more STEM kids in the TDP program right out of college.

Middletown isn’t going anywhere.

I’m in Bedminster- what communication mentions their visit? I haven’t seen or heard anything about it. (Other than here)

Worry depends on whether you are hoping for severance or to keep your job.

A lease ‘until 2029’ does not mean T would wait until then to clear people out. It just gives them a buffer to take their time. (Also , is it Jan 2029? Dec?)

They need to do clean-out/clean-up before a lease ends. How long was left on the original Bedminster lease after most people were gone? Although that was a much bigger campus, there was a lot more work there.

Bedminster lease is until 2029. Middletown is AT&T owned.

Stop worrying about it. You got at least 4 years. Anything can happen in that amount of time.

Exactly, including breaking the lease !!!!

That's malarkey, pull out of New Jersey now. We have got to reduce spending, cleaning out New Jersey would help.

I guess folks who live north or west of Bedminster are SOL because commuting to Middletown is going to add another hour to the commute.
