Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Too much competition

Nike can't rely on old models and its old glory and hope for the best. Did leadership even look at our competition these days? We need to be bold and inventive, not stick to "what works." What used to work before is definitely not going to work in this environment. Is there any way we can move into the future instead of being stuck in the past?

How come we can’t be bold and inventive AND be more operationally efficient at the same time? Let’s create great products and be able to accurately pick, pack, ship & bill our Customers. Most of the time the things that cause things to go off the rails, is simple process or data validations that are missing and require lots of manual intervention to work around. Quality creates speed. Sure would be nice to not be tripping over the same stupid things over & over & over again. Data getting lost/dropped, missing mandatory values in the transactional data, post shipping manual cr-p that prevents shipping/billing data from going out. We’re chasing our tails on literally the stupidest of things - and worst of all, nobody cares

Why HON was put in charge of the position she’s in is mind boggling

Having built targeted quick strike strategies that netted millions in revenue, I can tell you that Nike would actually be better off right now if they employed MORE of these past strategies in NSW while they fix the innovation problem. Problem is, no one even knows what the h$ll to bring back. There are major styles in the vault collecting dust. No one knows the history of some very cool styles and items that need to be brought back in very specific colors. How do I know…cause I haven’t seen any of it in years!! So, the teams lean on the same old Icons over and over and over. That’s what layoffs and incomprehensible re-orgs over the past few years will get you…a commoditized footwear offering with very mediocre apparel brought to you by the HON footwear incompetent leadership team.

Sorry, I agree regarding competition but also struggle because Nike is still bigger than it’s too 10 competitors combined, so what exactly are they doing right?

Nike will limp along for another 10 years or so before finally being bought and sold for parts by one of its competitors.

Look at our stuff from 10 years ago. We pushed the limit technically AND socially.

Now we’re a bland mush designed to be terminally inoffensive. We’re so afraid of a scandal that we refuse to stand out from the pack.

We are AFRAID to be inspirational

Competition has always been fierce. Nike’s leadership and overall strategy has just slowly fallen apart the last 5-7 years.
