I had a notification in workday to mark my home as ‘primary’. System says 0 days worked there and that field is uneditable. Does anyone have location strategy insight about commuting from one state to the other? Is there an upcoming round of layoffs for team members (I said what I said!!) who reside in a different state than the hub? Please say it ain’t so!!!

Employee displaced for living in SC on state line.
Just because the gov doesn't require it doesn't mean that WF won't use it as an excuse to term people. In my group we've be told in no uncertain terms that we cannot relocate outside that limit regardless of our WFH status. Well, we could, we just wouldn't work at WF anymore.
the "40 mile" rule ONLY applies to people who were 100% remote and are now required to go back into the office. If you are >40 miles it is considered a change in terms of employment (dept of labor reg) and the employer must offer severance. So that won't be going away - it's not WF policy, it's WF following a federal mandate.
That actually applies to most of these policies. Once we get rid of the cap and enough people are laid off, the chains will start to come off as well. The problem is that nobody knows when that will be.
It'll be interesting to see when this 40 mile thing goes away. Eventually WF will be whittled down to a small number of admin buildings, hiring will only take place at those locations and everyone else will be outsourced etc. At that point the policy becomes useless as a tool to fire people, so it will probably whither and die a quiet death. So long as you are at your assigned office when you're supposed to be, it's really none of their ducking businesses where your house is.
I know for a fact, some higher ups in the northeast sometimes commute by a chopper.
The rule is only "hard and fast" for plebes. Higher ups can be over 40 if they want, np.
@nmf is exactly right. Based on mileage. Crossing state lines has absolutely nothing to do with it.
Get outta my dreams ☁️
Get in to my car 🚗
Crossing state lines doesn't matter. It's all mileage based.
It's very commonin NYC for NJ and CT
STL for IL people
Charlotte for SC people
Reasons to love the well life is fake.
Up to 40 miles is the criteria. We were told nothing about crossing state lines, just the hard and fast 40 mile rule
