I've been hearing >2,000 people were impacted in this last round but that seems high for how little attention it's gotten in the media

If it were that high it would definitely get reported on. Usually when you don't see news coverage it is because it isn't a significant amount and is sadly consider just normal in corporate world.
I don’t think anybody is going to report on it. The media is generally underplaying the tech layoffs to make the economy seem better than it is. It’s an election year and they want it to seem like we’ve come out of covid with a booming economy. Truth is, these jobs are gone forever and even the overseas replacements will eventually be replaced with AI. It’s a bummer but many of us are going to either need to retrain or change industries.
