Thread regarding Humana Inc. layoffs

Never seen this much chaos in IT

It's actually quite impressive how quickly the ship is sinking. A new VP takes over a couple years ago, and we've lost every bit of ground we've made in quality and efficiency over the past decade. Town Halls, All Hands, Coffee Hours and my favorite "Fireside chats" are simply same old sunshine pumping and 1990's era Project Management buzzword sessions. ZERO effort to fix problems.

It literally feels like our leaders were chosen by some sort of lottery.

Dark times.

Does IT have to have their cameras on at all times or just meetings? Wondering what else is going to trickle into other departments/areas of Humana so I can be prepared.

The whole tech strat org (yes we have an entire org in technical strategy) has been a mess. It’s NOT a bad thing the org exists, it is needed, but they have such a pull on every IT org, for it to be a mess is terrible. I can’t wait to queue up out 4th (!!) cloud warehousing toll this year.

I agree. IT is in shambles. The whole being on camera thing makes me so frustrated.

This mentality is not just confined to IT. It’s everywhere. There’s not a department at Humana that isn’t led by an incompetent VP. People get these leadership positions because they are friends or well liked by the hiring managers. It has nothing to do with ability. In fact, most leaders will not hire someone smarter than them or that they are threatened by, which means that the incompetent higher than incompetent. Round and round and round we go fixing the same problem that we fixed a couple of years ago Prescription for a disaster if you ask me

Yes, there's no clear direction or strategy. Despite the optimistic view that Humana will thrive, we continue to face top-down demands and impossible deadlines. The 'my way or the highway' attitude is prevalent again. We're constantly rehashing the same issues because leaders don't hear what they expect. If I see another redundant spreadsheet, I'll lose my mind. Moreover, the numerous fireside chats seem unnecessary; I can't remember gaining useful information from any of them. Issues are not being addressed, and it's baffling that anyone has time for these meetings when we're constantly putting out fires. It's perplexing how leaders with minimal understanding or experience in IT were chosen for these spots. We seem to be many repeating past mistakes because of leader turnover. Why isn't Sam taking action or is he out of touch? Where is our new CEO in all this?? I've heard that we now must be on camera during meetings, according to Jim, so leaders can gauge engagement. This new level of micromanagement from the new CEO is concerning!
