Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Major reorganization and we have FTEs running a glorified garage sale at Nike (aka The vAn)

I’ve been to the shop on campus and must say it is a strange experience… usually run by kids that sit on their phones looking extremely disinterested in being there. Everything sold from XXXL sweatpants to broken office planters. At least you get a chance to see the physical product unlike the website. I’ve gotten one too many items with permanent “sample” written on them and they don’t take returns. What is odd is that sometimes the prices are the same at what you see at the employee store, even though they are tagged samples which generally free.

The Van is far better know than having more FTEs running sample sales over the course of the year. Plus the time lost in long lines of FTEs waiting in said sample sales. Evens the playing field for everyone to get HEAT without having to hear about it word of mouth.

Ha ha! Yes, those mystery boxes are the most con scammy thing on earth. Why not rake in profit instead of throwing them in the shred bin like they’re supposed to 😂

Great, maybe with the new store they can afford a more reliable website and hire more goons to give people a better shopping experience. Van products constantly end up on resell platforms, I’ll let you decide how that happens. I’ve known people that let you know exactly when a “heat drop” is, it’s safe to say they have a buddy system that take care of certain people to acquire too items. Speaking of heat, 90% of what they claim heat is just out of date overstocked styles that that’s want you to think is limited. The Van D riders are the most annoying, gushing over mystery boxes with XXL shirts with sample stamps on them that no one wants, and post their irrelevant pickups on slack channels.

Not to derail but does anyone actually find it surprising that Kobe’s from the ES end up on the resale market same day? People on slack talking about “you could lose your job” but I know for a fact that retail employees come and pick up a pair and immediately sell to resellers. To them, who cares if they lose a $20/hour job if they are making several hundred flipping shoes in the meantime. Simple economics people!

Sounds like 99.999999% of people disagree with your attempted dislike of the Van. Maybe go back to complaining about 4:1, stock price, or one of the more common themes if you want attention.

I heard they are doing an even bigger Van store soon. Let’s go make it even more popular now!

It’s a broken system… having three people run it makes it worse. Somehow, it was better pre Covid. Must be when they became too big for their own good.

What’s your alternative? Hire that work to an external vendor that has no accountability? Seems like a great way to create even more fraud. So I guess I wouldn’t be surprised if JD or one of his goons re-orgs the team & places it under their direct control.

You must enjoy paying 80%markup just so the money goes to JD’s wallet, congrats

This terrible take sure didn’t go like you planned. The Van is so much better than the old sample sales.

Hot take, but the Van is basically just a resell platform, something Nike has trying to enforce against employees. Gone are the days where sample sales got you shirts for a dollar each, they’ll mark up free factory samples and charge almost close to company store prices. That, and their website is basically unusable since precovid.

It’s a money maker. That’s why. Otherwise the stuff would get thrown out as not saleable.

Shout out to the Van team who make it all happen with just 3 FTE’s.

Bro probably lost a pair of high heat from his cart and figured he could come here and whine. Go su-k on your spare shoe laces and keep shopping because we know you will.

So? We all want our jobs. There is no need for this kind of comment.

Oh come on. Do you have kids? When they are growing up they go through shoes and clothes like crazy. Of course I would love cheap stuff from Van for my monsters at home. This has nothing to do with layoffs
