Execs in COO are junior managers

It so embarrassing to watch the decline of COO from its original high point of “mediocre”.

There are execs with massive responsibilities in SSO that are getting into minutia of what their organizations are doing. Bypassing management they are supposed to have hired to do the job. There’s no strategy, there’s no asking questions there’s decision-making at the top that is bringing real risk to the organization. Trying to centralize every little thing and take work away from the professionals and trying to turn them into operations unit is mind-boggling and a disaster waiting to happen.

Then the same people go off on these location trips to see people and if they don’t like the questions that they’re getting, they’re rude curt and condescending. They are children. It’s obvious these are people that have failed miserably previous positions at JPM, never asking questions about what they’ve inherited because they don’t care and what they are interested in only is increasing their personal headcount on their teams.

They are shameful group.

COO looks a lot like fresh-faced summer camp graduates lately, the results are as expected

There is a reason that it took months for the employee survey to come out. They’ve had to do nothing but spin on the fact that the ratings were disastrous for this group of misfits. Their response to that was to take the Line management and force them into traveling 10 or 12 times a year.

Recently moved into COO and I agree. It may be worse here than my prior business group. I’ll preface this by admitting to being with WF for over 5 years but some of those you describe as junior execs are also from legacy WF and internally promoted. I can think of a few that could have only been promoted due to favoritism or a diversity checkbox, unfortunately, as they very clearly lack leadership and executive skills. These are roles that should be equipped from Day 1 as a strong leader in the industry and not OJT as a leader.
