Tech AMA with Tracy — Recap, Thoughts?

I missed the AMA — didn't have the bandwidth for stupidity today.

For those who took the hit for the team, were there any worthwhile nuggets of info?

She did a good job answering her cherry picked and lobbed softball questions. Nothing of merit, nothing that anyone really cares about. And the company could reduce employee stress by 1000x if the cheerleader and the whole C-Suite would resign. I care as much on how she handles her stress, as I did what kind of Pizza Saul likes..... give me a break...AMA my ar-e.

Malibu stacy never says anything of note unless it is regarding DEI.. because that is the sole reason she has her job

My site was listed as a tech hub and growth market in 2020. Now it’s not. Sal also wanted to build a tech presence in Seattle/PNW.

I’ve been in multiple recent meetings where it has been stated that location strategy is continuously under review and things may change.

The main purpose of this is layoffs and lawsuits. They can layoff anyone not in specific locations, regardless of age, pre-existing medical exceptions, etc and use location strategy as an excuse and use it as a defense against any discrimination lawsuits. That is why they made it clear not to move to a hub.

Despite what TK said in the AMA, exceptions are being made. It is not being advertised as exceptions. It’s moving certain people and teams to the back burner in the location strategy. Some will later be laid off. Others will receive more permanent exceptions at a later time. But for now, the image has to be put forward that this is not happening because it is counter to the layoff, attrition and lawsuit defense goals.

@lan+1s6M1KLo Additionally it’s not far fetched to believe the list could change. The sites have absolutely changed since the location strategy was started pre-Covid. 8 hubs with 8 specialty markets now. Under Brady it was pared down to 8 and 3. Who the F knows what it will be tomorrow.

Tracy Kerrins is awesome. I watched the AMA and she is on point. At least she is in touch with the challenges and speaks to them.

Without strong product development and business analysis, testing is impossible.
fault one: wrong players are involved and don't know what they are doing.
fault two: no UI specifications written down. Most BECs don't know what a wireframe is.
fault three: coders don't code unit and integration test in their code.
fault four: Wells is too cheap to purchase a real UI test tool (Like IBM's Rational test). Instead, they use open source Selenium
fault five: Selenium only designed into the CD/CI pipeline for Java. Many of the apps are in .NET. This highlights a bigger problem which with all the offshoring and the Indian Java gurus will resolve the problem (Hint: if you are a .NET developer best to get the he...ll out of this sh...t..show.)
fault six: Without specs With the BA's (called BECs) not directly involved in the sw development -- they give a lot of lip service but because they are not certified they don't know what they are doing and don't know how to "fit into" the development process. no specs.. no desired state known... no test. Whatever gets developed starts with a whole lot of maintenance backlog. Facilitators like maintaining -- managers like developing and minimal maintenance.

@mjl+1s6M1KLo lol, testing. We just got the talk about "heightened awareness" b/c of the latest f**k up where some system put changes in place that affected customers.

Gee, what can go wrong when you essentially disband QA and think Agile is going to address this when you have people (like developers) who have zero clue how to do testing properly.

I would have liked her to say they're looking at the testing process, if there is any testing process any more, instead of just saying speak up if you know something is wrong. There was a reason why we used to regression test.

The typical DEI cheerleader speech and location change nonsense… also, you are appreciated based on stated location strategy.

@lan I don't think anybody expected it to change. @gme was just recapping the call as asked.

There is one thing. She doesn't see there being exceptions made for locations. The list is established. No changes. If your location is not on the list, pepper your angus.
