Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

What about ETW's?

ETW for a year and a half. Been told our dept should be safe (whatever that means nowadays) and that our contracts "protect" us to a degree, but would we find out next week along with FTE's? We don't get severance or anything but I'm thinking the word would come from our contract holder first? Can any ETW's that were let go last round chime in? I'm genuinely curious how we will be told if we are let go and by whom. With 1k-2k rumored numbers for next week, I don't see how ETW's aren't going to be impacted. Thanks!

ETW procurement processes are in dire need of some overhaul, and not just replacing the staffing agency with R. There are far too many cases when the only time the person footing the bill for the ETW is aware they are paying is when renewals come up and procurement has to find someone to check if they are keeping them.

anyways almost every other ETW Nike hires is a s#it. They dont bring any value and they just fill the body from the body shop. Other than big boss gets cuts from these vendor and body shop no other value prop.

Currently an ETW. Just found out my direct report was let go, but have received no updates/communications from anyone at Nike or my contracting company. Anyone experience something similar or have any insight?

Many (most?) ETW’s are not going to be renewed at the end of the FY. It’s going it be a big drop off at the end of May.

We’re disposable by nature, it’s the terms of signing on to be an ETW. Expect nothing, count on receiving even less. It’s just how it goes.

Can confirm we have eliminated numerous ETWs contracts this week as well, including many more starting next week as shifts in roles begin.

ETWs have never had much in way of protections. For decades Nike has ran this 1099 mill on ETWs who all play the “hopper” lottery hoping for an open headcount. So no, ETWs are never safe. Contractors used to have at least till the end of their contract, as we followed the Maxim of “Do the right thing” by folks.

But this is Johnny boys Nike now… and anyone that tells you that you’re safe is a liar. Moral business conduct, accountability, and the Maxims are mostly lip service these days. You have to be your own advocate at all times by looking out for any open positions (in and out of the company) and keeping your resume updated at all times. They can, will, and have cut ETW contracts short by months to satisfy arbitrary reduction numbers. They did it just this last June, cutting people who had ample work to complete on their projects and contracts dated out through Aug-Sept. All gone in the blink of an eye while Johnny “The Modern Robber Barron” Donahoe took a 13% raise on top of his 32mil annual compensation package.

Buckle up folks!
Sh--s getting real.

Can second that confirmed ETWs will heavily be affected, but will not go against layoff number. Use your brains people, if your team and upper managements gets let go they aren’t going to keep you around

Our whole team of ETWs were eliminated last CDA, please don’t listen to anyone here that says you will be safe or not. You will know in less than a week, I know it such a and you want to find some comfort but expect the worst and have a back up plan ready

I’m a contractor, and was notified that changes are coming and more likely will end my contract.

Confirmed ETWs are not included in the layoffs. Your direct report might change depending on if they get laid off or moved to another department but most likely you’ll stay in your role doing what you’re doing until your contract expires or they end it early because they can at any time for any reason

They will be the first to go from what I’ve heard, more likely your management will get cut first

I’d worry about the new fiscal year as an ETW. Not this/next week’s layoffs.

ETWs not in this, but contracts and total spending is being scrutinized

My entire department was let go and no one said anything to me for a month. My supplier couldn’t get anyone to communicate on status of my contract so they asked me to keep showing up. Which I did. Eventually, someone received the invoice and realized they neglected to handle the ETWs leftover. They paid us and cut our contracts by sending the supplier a “your services are no longer needed” email. Looked very slapdash and clueless from my perspective. Shenanigans.

We didn’t even include ETWs in our post-org changes chat after phase 1 was concluded and had to fill them in after. I don’t think ETWs are included in the layoffs.
