No company wide email for the restructuring that happened yesterday?

Not to stupid or afraid. Just easier to take the severance and move on. Fighting JRC was not worth it. I had already given enough of my life, they were not getting any more ...time to move on. Depending on the severance package it just made more sense. Had it been only 4 weeks, I may have sued.
The last layoff was definitely age and wage(seniority) based. They got rid of the higher salaries, changed job title, yet expected the same job duties at a reduced pay. Take it or leave it. I left. Promoted jobs were hand picked with out rhyme or reason... limited qualifications or opportunity to apply. These positions were predetermined as if being picked from a hat.

If they eliminated positions to get rid of people (reduce payroll dollars) then hired new people (lower pay) that would be a class action lawsuit.
JRC is probably so arrogant they think people are too stupid or too afraid to challenge them.

@5jbd+1s581T8a Seeing as jobs are already posted this week for the same positions that were considered "layoffs" last week, I think it is fair to say that this was a targeted firing.

They promoted us to ML’s and used us to clean up stores and train our replacements at a much lower salary. Extremely unethical, but that’s todays business world.

There are ALWAYS new hires that figure the previous person in that position was lazy, dull, and (often) old.
They will impress management with how clever and productive they are.
The reason you got the job is you work for less money.
Sorry Sunshine.
You busted your butt for a WHOLE YEAR and got riffed.
Check out LinkedIn and see how great Follett is doing!

Anyone else think that the MLs chosen seem either really random, or really calculated? I haven't figured out which, but I feel like there were people targeted...

I wonder how many of those ML left a good job with the promise of a better job with Follett.

I guess the fine print on the ML job description last year was 11 month promotion. I feel badly for those who lost their job and for the remaining MLs that have to take on more stores (probably with no pay increase).

Did they just make a big deal less than a year ago about how genius their market leader idea was? That didn’t age well at all.

Everyone: I was one of those that lost their jobs today. There was originally 169 Market Leaders nationwide, 60 got let go today. 35% of that workforce no longer works there. Wow! Where is that B&N merger now???

This has been going on for over a decade. First the Follett family then JCR so nothing has changed for years. The reason you worked for the Follett's or JRC or both is that the campus outsourced you to begin with.

Y’all don’t understand how corporations work. The universities and Follett are both corporations. They don’t care about laying off people as long as money is coming in on both sides. Your uni doesn’t care that someone was let go….

The campus stop caring when they signed the Follett contract. You need to stop caring too.

No word or email from corporate? Are they afraid that their campus contacts might find out? Does that sound like a healthy transparent relationship to you?!?

How many MLs are left? Have not heard anything from my RM or ML about changes?

What are stores doing without their ML’s?

Agree with previous post.
If your store previously had 15 employees, 8 FT, 7 PT and you are keeping the doors open with 1 FT and 2 PT - JRC pays their investors with your blood, sweat, and tears and will replace you tomorrow if they can find someone to work for less money than you.

As long as JRC gets it's profits, what's the problem?
Payroll is a controllable expense.
Management is counting on you to do what it takes!

The sad part is here we are the next day and it's business as usual.
Same huddles and calls, same daily tasks, same work to grow access, do chargebacks, run graduations.
Nobody acts like anything happened yesterday and in a week or so nobody will mention those let go. Like they never existed.
And the same fake cheerfulness in the face of non-existent morale.
