Return to office?

I’m really worried about a potential return to office! Is this another tactic to get us out??

Most areas in the US have been designated remote already. Where they haven't they have sold buildings to significantly downsize. These physical locations are going to be small and are somewhat of a necessity for things like physical mail. I have not heard any rumblings. Stay productive working from home and hope they deal with those that don't on an individual basis instead of punishing all.

Go to the office and express gratitude for not having been laid off yet, but remain prepared for any potential changes.

The problem with the industry is there are two opinions on work from home from an industry level. You have the remote-first companies which advertise working from home as a significant work perk and hire remote positions. Then you have the old school banks which need to fill bodies in seats to make the real estate holdings they hold look like a great investment. Office buildings without bodies in them are worthless. Those businesses will sugar coat it to be for team building and training purposes, but they really just want their value to rise. In PayPal's case, they don't hold any real estate besides maybe San Jose HQ, so returning to work would be a strange decision considering the numerous site closures particularly in the USA.

ireland..1office in dublin (on sale for 2 years ), 1 office was opened in dundalk( 90min from dublin), dundalk office was rented until 2022 then they closed/did not renew contract as no one used anymore, lot of employee are with full remote contract here in ireland and are spread all around the country, other are based in dundalk/dublin. Months over months less and less people partecipate on the ''collaboration day'' in the office. Since 2022 they are trying to sale office (outside dublin and not easily reachable by transport) in dublin to buy a smaller one nearby city center without result.

Mood is very low atm due to layoff and relocate lot of project/market to manila or bangalor.
Ireland workforce w as around 5k in 2020, now 1.6k .

I've heard these rumours as well. They can't just make us all go back in after all this time can they?
