So many exposés about corrupt leaders remind me of Wells Fargo. Whether it be Hillsong, Enron, any American Greed episode, WeWork, Lehman, the old Wells Fargo, the new Wells Fargo…..
They all involve narcissistic power-hungry leaders who take advantage of their customers, employees or vulnerable believers for their own personal gain. They get away with scandalous behavior for years by falsely claiming ethical values publicly, while obscuring gross misconduct behind the scenes. (You see it here: our executives talk publicly about our “customer-centric culture, collaboration, strong risk management and innovation”. Pure BS) They all spin a false public persona which is the direct opposite of what is happening behind the scenes, bury the truth, eliminate the whistle-blowers and have an inner circle of yes-men who protect them. Oftentimes, the unethical behavior is all so blatantly obvious once the right people take the time to put the pieces together. And when they finally fall: they all lawyer-up, threaten to sue critics, suffer memory loss, deny accountability, point fingers at each other, cry about unfair persecution and eventually walk away with their ill-gotten gains.
