Per article on Oregonlive.com

Pk is delusional. He wants to relive he glory days of the 70s and is willing to sc--w over the company of today to realize that goal. Employees that want to be in the office 7 days a week slaving to make him money? F$ck that. PK, JD, MM and the other dinosaurs can go an f$ck themselves

When you are weak appear strong.

Unless PK is truly delusional I'd wager this is one of the strongest signals yet the ELT is failing in the eyes of the board.

Well now you know where uncle Phil stands and how much he cares about you. You can stop asking.

The giving up space at retailer got me, i joined nike not too long ago, and when i knew they pivot away from retailer marketplace, i thought they really became too arrogant for their own good.

  • and here we go, going back to focusing on retailer marketplace again, cos thats really where the competition is.. cmon, this is common sense.

I think PK is trying to get a hold of the situation, keeping a positive face on the company for retailers and consumers but behind the scene he’s ripping ELT to shreds. We do not have anyone ready to replace JD, and I don’t know if MP will take up the helm. We are stuck with him for a while, unfortunately.

I always had a lot of respect for Phil Knight and thought it was great that one of the company founders was still with us. I got to meet PK a couple times and always found his speeches to be insprirstional. However, that quote makes me sick to my stomach because it really shows how much Phil is out of touch with what is going on. Phil was quick to boot Perez years ago for not understanding Nike, so it's befuddling to see this support for JD now, who is way worse. I'm losing hope that this is ever going to change for the better, both as an employee (for now) and a shareholder.

When the owner of the franchise has to publicly back the head coach in the media, you know that’s when he’s looking for a new head coach.

JD is a management consultant. They sound knowledgeable and convincing. He has bamboozled Phil and the board into thinking he knows what he is doing but does not. When one steps back and looks at it objectively one can see it. Giving up shelf space at retailers. Brilliant! Selling the same tired shoes in new colors. Not coming out with a chunky shoe fast when everyone has one. This guy is clueless and not smart at all. Now we have more competition and get the space back plus our customers don’t trust us.

@xye this is my take too, but leaves the question why JD of all people is the anointed one? It makes zero fiscal or strategic sense. His tenure has left Nike, like his past grifts, measurably worse off by the day. He barely commands an inch (less than a pound of flesh?) of respect within the inc. The future has never been bleaker, yet here he still is and here we are now.

So who benefits from this? Surely not PK? Unless he's a secret corporate masochist and this is 50 shades of Phil? Just old and confusing stonks down for stonks up? Maybe attempting a speed run corporate trainwreck before kicking the bucket? JD holding Hollywood level kompromat over PK or the board?

Every day JD is allowed to sit at Nike's table is a comedy sketch worthy parallel to risking everything even if it means losing it all. But why is it allowed to go on?

People hold Phil up as a god. He is an out-of-date dude with a warped sense of reality, he is out of touch with the company and its employees, and he has questionable political affiliations. He doesn't give 2 shakes about any of you. Money stands behind money. Rich old white dudes stand behind rich old white dudes.
