Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Unfair practices at Nike, specifically in GT org under DA

Some engineering teams are allowed to work remote while others have been asked to RTO. What's the logic here? They do same type of work.
Many employees on these remote teams have moved to WA, NV, TX and FL where they pay no income taxes.

Whereas, employees working in WHQ have to pay oregon income tax, metro tax. In addition we pay for child/elder care, gas, car insurance, on campus food etc. Plus we spend an hour of so in commuting.
I see the value of being in office but feel this is not fair to WHQ based employees. So how about giving employees who have RTO an extra week of vacation or additional pay to make it fair. Is this too much to ask?

Product managers, some engineering VP's, SD's are remote too - this does not make any sense because they more than anyone else, they need to collaborate with business and engineering teams.

I also thought this was BS and quit when I figured out I wasn’t being laid off. Now I’m remote and also earning more.

Frustrating to see Nike pay $$$ to fly these remote executives every week and pay their hotel and food and car.

Well, Nike is STILL hiring for remote jobs so I’d say that is a pretty good indicator that there aren’t different bands.

It hasn’t even been a year since they tried getting us back in the office. How are you able to confidently claim that your future salary increases are unaffected?

Some misinfo here. I'm on RW pilot.

Remote work pilot was put in during a hot job market 2-3 years ago to retain people at a time when we were actually hiring. Everyone in those roles who hasn't quit was grandfathered in because HR made the mistake of telling us the pilot was now "indefinite" before the stupid real estate panic set in.

We are getting raises and bonuses same as everyone else. There is no "lower banding". I have had the same % raise every year, including years before the pilot.

Yes we have some flexibility in hours. But everyone is expected to be available during 9-5 M-F 5 days a week. If your slack bubble stops being green, certain managers will start asking questions. Some won't but it's no different from turning a blind eye to an empty seat in the office. People who consistently deliver and rub elbows with their mgr get some leeway, just like in office.

Not trying to downplay the benefit. It's a good benefit. If I didn't have it I'd have quit by now. But some ppl have some delusional fantasies about people on the pilot being paid less or working less.

Yeah, the wisdom of the masses is a fallacy. It's just bitterness about RTO, and I can understand why they feel that way. That anger should really be directed at the people I've seen posting here that say they don't work Friday's at all. Those are the ones ruining it for the rest of us.

You whq folks are going rabid. Just check any open position. Remote focused roles are lower and any opening with flexibility will negotiate towards the bottom of the band.

Sure. A few hundred people in the remote pilot kept their salary. They’re also never getting a raise again.

Focus on real problems instead of pulling a few coworkers down. Being jealous and feral is a great way to ruin your professional network.

WHQ employees are not paid more than remote. They should be considering the extra costs but they don't. That is fake information spread by remote folks.

JD & the rest of us the clowns running Nike have lost the locker room & are flailing to get it back. Mandating an RTO in 2024 shows how out of touch with reality they are.

How much is the pay difference in WHQ vs Oregon remote?

I didn't see any pay cut, but is there any incentive in RTO?

If OP wants to earn less working remote they’re welcome to leave & find a new job that matches their specifications.

You just sound bitter at missing the boat man. Just catch the next one. Stop dragging everyone else down because you’re too lazy to climb.

There are pay bands based on your location. Even people working remote that live in the Portland area have lower pay bands than those who are RTO'd. It may not be immediately apparent, but it will affect raises going forward. WHQ is one of the higher pay bands, second only to BATC

Yep. Sure glad they made me relocate to Oregon while my manager, coworkers, customers, and senior leaders are remote or in other states.

Yea in my org we have a few individuals who were approved for remote. But, even so for the folks who are supposed to be coming in? Yea f that, they show up for 15-20min of facetime and by lunch they too are gone lol. So i guess at this point no one gives a flying F about rto. 🤷‍♂️
