Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

Management/MIT

I have currently been with Sams for 13 years. I did the schooling they offered for free and got my bachelors degree. Finding a job without any type of management experience has been hard.

I feel like we are all very quick to talk about the bad, another good. Who has honestly gone into the MIT program or is a manager and does not hate it? Which leads me to my next question what does a manager truly do all day? I guess I say that because I never see them running around stressing like we do.

Manager here. Been in role for nearly 4 years now. Some days I do hate it. Other days it's not bad. If you're good at it and care about the people working for you most of your time is spent running around putting out fires and helping as much as you can when you can. It's about as thankless as it gets because no matter how much you try you can't solve all the problems or help all the people. When things don't go right, it's now your fault. Doesn't matter than you were trying to cover 3 different departments yourself. You never have enough people to meet demand. When things do go right, standards go up because "clearly it's possible". The pay is good but often doesn't feel worth it when you get your a** chewed out for something that happened when you weren't even in the building. Other managers give you a bad rep, no matter how hard you try and then you go to places like this and people sh*t talk you, often for things that aren't even in your control. Bottom line, it's good money and good vacation time but don't fall into the trap of putting too much of yourself into it because try as you might you'll always fail in some regard and Sam's Club will swallow you whole if you let it.

What the he-l's wrong with people? If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all. Good for you. You worked, you went to school to better yourself. You should be very proud of yourself.
