Oracle to settle female employees' equal pay case for $25 mln. Oracle hates losing lawsuits.

Employees that have sued and won in the past didn't really last long for one reason or another. Not saying that Oracle will retaliate, I have no inside information. But I don't think these women have a long future with Oracle for a multitude of possibly related or un related reasons.

Feb 14 (Reuters) - Oracle America has agreed to pay $25 million to settle a long-running class action accusing it of underpaying about 4,000 female employees in California compared to men performing the same work.
In a motion filed Tuesday, opens new tab in San Mateo County Superior Court, plaintiffs' lawyers urged Judge Raymond Swope to approve the agreement, saying it was fair and reasonable. A hearing is scheduled for April 8 on preliminary approval, which if granted would allow notice to be sent to potential class members to give them a chance to object before final approval.

A similar thing happened in 2011 when sales engineers (SE) sued for overtime and won. 4 years later there was tremendous pressure to cut back over time hours in 2015. In 2016 any SE who submitted overtime was questioned and warned it was not a good career move to submit overtime. In July of 2017 sales engineers with a history of the usual over time hours of 10 per week were laid off in mass.

Yeah, I know retaliation too. Seems to be one of oracles most successful products.

Retaliation is definitely a thing at Oracle, and its done pretty much every time you might go to your HR rep or even the Ethics hotline. If whatever you bring to HR or the Ethics hotline is not hard documented (email or corroborated extensively) its put in the category of "He said /She said" and is then discounted and flushed away when HR/Ethics Hotline does their "investigation". Everyone will lie, the stories will be changed, and the person who took the complaint to HR/Ethics hotline will then be evaluated as to the risk to Oracle. If management is involved, get ready for a healthy dose of gaslighting. What HR/Ethics don't tell you is what happened on the other side. They will never tell you what happened even if you're right or had cause. You'll know your complaint was taken seriously or downplayed when you're iced out of projects or are ostracized by the people you took to HR/Ethics - provided they have power over you. In back channels the same people you took to HR/Ethics will do everything they can to "blacklist" you, and before you know it, you've got plenty of time on your hands because you've got no work. All the projects you used to do, have gone to others. All the meetings you used to attend have been cancelled around your participation. People you have never met/talked to, will already have a negative opinion of you because of the blacklisting. The retaliation is real, but because its not "hard documented", you'll find yourself being "re-orged" out of Oracle. So yeah, I have no doubt retaliation around this lawsuit will happen. Oracle will appear to be creative in getting rid of those people, but it will just be a slight change to their playbook.

Wouid not look good to the public for women - esp those that were underpaid -
to get layed off. We are living in a diff time, now. White males are more likely to get laid off than females.

The typical SAP report that runs includes CC... cost center and WBS... work based solution. When trying to control a cost center a report identifies two major variables, years of service and salary. Those with the highest salary and fewest years of service get let go first.

These women added themselves to the top of the list with the pay increase. If they made less they would survive more layoffs. It's not relation necessarily. But yeah they moved up on the list of people to layoff. Most likely all women just moved up on the layoff list at Oracle.
