PIP vs Action plan

I was threatened a PIP(90 day) during my performance review(unfair IMHO). My manager said they would work with HR to do that. After a month or so, I was put on an informal warning with and action plan(60 day). Can anyone help me understand why it was changed?

Too many cowards on this site encouraging people to roll over and get kicked even more. Fight back using the tools and protections at your disposal. Document everything, seek legal advice, contact the EEOC (for what that cess pool is worth) and go to ER immediately if you feel abused or the victim of a hostile work environment, to establish a paper trail.

Do NOT let this company bully you out, they thrive on people taking the path of least resistance out the door.

You will likely be fired and not RIF'ed. If that is the case, you may not get severance or unemployment...depending on which state you live in and the respective labor laws. You need to go externally for another job.

It's a rough situation. Plan your escape. You'll be happier the moment you're out. If it's not worth being let go, resign. It may be a little painful now but with time it gets better. Frankly, there's tons of backstabbing vampires present so it's a bullet you dodged in the end. Props to you for seeking some kind of guidance. Many have to hide these kinds of things. Retaliation is very real here. Rise above it and move on. The role was a bad fit and not a good match. You have a life of opportunities elsewhere. Don't let anyone use negative commentary to say "you su-k". It says more on them and less on you. Not everyone can be a cracked out zombie worker bee. "High sales goals and pressures." Press me all you want, nothing has changed. This is a blessing in disguise!

I dunno with these, informals and PIPs aren’t exactly easy to get approved, there has to be documentation and it needs to be compelling. It isn’t the strategy people think it is, that strategy is rife with legal and reputational risk. Yet everyone that gets these cries foul while still not fixing the actual issue. They have it documented well enough to mitigate those risks most likely. Fix the concern and/or plan your exit otherwise.

Vast majority of people on PIPS deserve it. Vast majority take no accountability and are fired. They then blame others for their failings. Some exceptions, of course.

If you research it on the HR site it says you have to be on an informal warning first. Then, formal warning. Then, termination. They have to follow the procedure before they fire you.

OP, start looking for a job outside the company. They want you out. Sounds like you are being targeted. Document everything you are doing to satisfy the PIP. I've noticed that if they think they can get away with it, they'll do it. If you don't push back, they will keep doing it.

Don't get combative with management. If you find yourself in a meeting with not one but two managers, you're being "counseled" with the second manager as a witness to HR. This company is known to damage employees - to the point of criminalizing them. So, be aware of that. Get an employment attorney if it's feasible. Argue hostility to the attorney, that way they can work between you and the organization to argue severance. If you're a protected class, that helps. Effectively, the deck of cards is being stacked against you. Stack it back. Document everything (you won't be able to send yourself emails so take photos if needed) and find a way to document it on your own time with your own devices. Management may encourage coworkers to produce hostility and then pin-point the blame on you for "insert some absurd criminal allegation here." They will get so desperate and resort to pointing blame on you for "gross misconduct." Let them fire you. Talk to HR so you have record of trying to reconcile the issue. Go to the EEOC and argue hostility and retaliation. When you go for unemployment do the same and state you have been retaliated against. The experience I went through almost made me end my life. I walked away and survived. You will too. Be strong and good luck. Thank them for the "opportunity", comply fully, and get out of there. Do not stoop down to Shart levels of professionalism and remain composed. Read this over and over. Do research as the laws apply to your state. Get help from an employment attorney. You could walk away with something vs. having a terrible experience with this org.

I deserve it, said no one ever put on a pip. Manager probably talked to HR who informed them of the process timelines. Starts with informal then if no change formal followed by fireing.
