Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

OHAI role

Should one consider joining Oracle given lots of negative reviews everywhere? I am hesitant to take any risks and would appreciate your advice, thanks.

If you are unable to get any other offer and you are making more than your current consider joining.

Not all managers are bad but you still feel a heavy top down push with no say of your own. Like someone said run by accountants and spreadsheet ...

Whatever you decide, make sure you keep learning and have a exit plan ready when needed.

Oracle is a company you want on your resume. and Tech is laying off everywhere... if you can get a job at Oracle (even to be made miserable working for the "suits" - I say this jokingly but there are a LOT of big heads walking around there which I always find silly given we negotiate contracts where we have 80% market share) take it even if its for the experience and paycheck. You will learn and earn the right to work wherever you want to go from there 5yrs from now. They are who C-level customers listen to, even though they love to hate them...

There is way too much negativity about Oracle on this site! People get so uptight about a little right sizing and the removal of malcontents! You have to expect politics wherever you go, so buck up and join Oracle now!!!

“ Oracle pay a lot more “

You should look around. You appear to be happy that you are missing out. I routinely hear of employees make 50-60% raises from really big software companies

All big tech companies have layoffs here and there. It's like the stock market...high risk high rewards. Yes, we might be laid off, but also the big tech companies like Oracle pay a lot more, especially if you get RSUs like I did. My base salary plus the RSUs equal double what I was making before. I have been at Oracle for almost 2 years, which is equivalent to 4 years of pay where I was before in a stable environment. I guess you should evaluate if you have a family and need a very stable place to work, even if it pays less or you can afford a bit more risk and take the Oracle job. Keep in mind that the majority of Oracle employees are not being laid off. Just make sure you check if the team you will join has had layoffs. You can just ask your future manager if there have been layoffs. Most will tell you the truth, even if some people here might tell you otherwise.

Sounds like you are talking about all the bottom of the barrel doormats who comprise what is left of Oracle's workforce.

we are in the middle of recession in tech industry.

Excuse me, but it's only a "recession" for commodity tech workers who have allowed their skills to become obsolete. That's on them, not the industry.

OHAI was investment focus within Oracle for now. It's not a dying CX. However, it's not indispensable like OCI. It may be abandoned in favor of new AI toys in the future (which will be accompanied with massive lay offs starting with recent hires), but for a year at least you will enjoy a paycheck on time.

uhhhh, the crash was in 2000, not 1999.

And there was only a frenzy in 1999, heading into the supposed bug that was going to ruin the world.

we are in the middle of recession in tech industry.
it's the wrong forum to ask.
pay is meh, raises don't keep up with inflation
benefits package is ok
work/life balance is good
large corp with everything typical to one
main drawback - run by accountants and spreadsheet, meaning massive random layoffs without any prior indication

Oracle would be a good option if your second option was cleaning out a porta potty!
