Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Where there’s smoke, there is FIRE

A plethora of insightful discussions regarding Nike's overall operations has been unfolding on this platform. I'm intrigued to know if there is awareness surrounding the circulating rumors of corruption within Jordan Brand.

Despite my professional disassociation with the brand, I've encountered feedback from numerous contacts, both current and former members of the Jordan team. They've conveyed a shared sentiment suggesting an unsettling atmosphere within the brand, extending across all its functions. Concerns include seemingly undeserved promotions, evident cliques within departments, perplexing team member transitions, internal leadership alliances, and a consistent pattern of ill-advised decision-making, particularly noticeable during the December shakeup. I wouldn't raise these concerns if I didn't believe they were grounded in truth; too many capable employees seem to be adversely affected by the ongoing situation. I'm interested to hear if others have encountered similar reports.

What you described happens all throughout Nike. My time at Jordan has been surrounded by passionate, hardworking, talented folks that deserve their flowers. Nike as an umbrella hasn’t been fair to me or fostered my growth, but my team members at JB have.

Telling my kids to become strategists. They get promoted the fastest at nike/jordan because they put together an amazing PowerPoint. But the reality is that they don’t implement the strategies nor do they know the consumer well enough for the strategy to be valid.

Boys club/girls club/POC club…yeah it’s probably all of them. None of them are right when the person in the role clearly doesn’t have the experience. But they’re never tested because they move on to another promotion in 2-3 years.

Yeah Nike and Jordan both care more about who is cool and wears the right outfits than who has the experience. Nothing new though for my fellow co-workers on here.

This is true everywhere in the company, but most true in Jordan.

Incompetent people are promoted at a rapid rate, have no idea what they are doing, and end up just being puppets for the person/people that elevated them into these positions.

APLM to Senior PLM in 3.5 years

CIA to FPD in 4 years

With the new leadership there is definitely a new "old girls" network happening under HO. She has elvated her people into roles that they are not ready for. She is forcing out anyone not on her personal team. Nike was the old boys network that is changing. It is also become to focused on checking off the DEI boxes and less about talent evaluation.

This isn't news TBH. This has been going on for 10 years and now you're seeing all of what you described from the past coming home to roost. Go woke. Go broke. Nike more interested in having a 'diverse' leadership vs. people who can do the job no matter who or what they represent on the outside or what box they check.

It's been 'Style' (the box someone may check) over substance (can they do the job)... Peter Principle.

Dipsh!ts. Like the rest of Portland...they've completely lost their minds... Its a slow nose dive.

Of course we have, but nobody is going to do sh-t about it. Losing out on jobs because of guys playing basketball with each other, favoritism for roles based on personal relationships, blah blah blah
