Thread regarding Enbridge Inc. layoffs

To Those Affected

Take it one day at a time. If you got laid off and you’re not shocked, you’re probably not normal. I know a lot of people in my circle who had gone through layoffs and even if I was never laid off, I am stressed out hearing about it. So it’s totally normal to feel shocked, frustrated, angry, deflated. That means you’re human and it’s ok to feel that way for sometime.

Sometimes you question yourself if you had done enough or if you’re good enough. You start second guessing yourself but do know that during layoffs a lot of factors are out of your control. You can only control you.

Start laying out your finances if you feel like you don’t have enough. Cut some discretionary spending for now and budget for the necessities only. Take a look at your short term and long term financial goals too. You maybe in a good spot anyway but because of layoff you feel like doomed even if it’s not the case.

If it helps you, talk to someone you know who had gone through layoffs. Use this time to catch up with some connections, invite friends for a coffee. Go for long walks, it does wonder to human brains. A hot shower and keeping a routine makes you feel normal.

If you are already struggling with something else before layoffs, do know that you’re not alone. A lot of people I met look really fine on the outside but a lot of us are struggling on something at some point. Some are just good at hiding their struggles than others.

If everything else doesn’t work, pray. Somehow someone above can hear and know what you really feel and think.

This is a great post.

I was laid off this week. A part of me saw it coming so I was prepared.

I will miss the team the most but not the politics and lack of integrity in those certain individuals that just want to get ahead. So many people have reached out already so I know there are good people that remain.

I enjoyed working for Enbridge during my time. I learned a lot and was given challenging work that I can proudly put on my resume for the next opportunity.

All the best to those that left and those that stayed. For those that stayed, it is going to be a tough period ad more changes are coming with N75. For those that left, this may be the change that you didn’t know you needed.

Great post, and very considerate of the poster to take the time for a thoughtful post. Agree completely. It is normal to feel all of these emotions and to be angry, scared, doubtful, the full gamit, sometimes from one hour to the next. Let yourself feel the emotions, but in a healthy way, then put that energy into what’s next instead of dwelling! Identify what is within your control and Control what you can control! As someone that has sought help from a therapist during certain periods of life in the past, reach out to a therapist if you need it (and catch it quickly); seeking help is a sign of strength. personal experience I have found the company EAP not a fit for me (hopefully others have had better luck); seek a different therapist if needed (may be more money, but could be worth it for the right fit if they can help you to level set yourself and get back on track quickly). Just know YOU GOT THIS, and you will get through it. It may pass like a kidney stone, but it will pass!!
