Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

You cannot please all of the people, all of the time...

NIKE has been a great company for many. Not a great company for some. We may agree to disagree on current direction, or even decisions made in the past. People, processes, investment, priorities, etc. The one thing we can all agree on is the only thing for sure is nothing is for sure. We can armchair quarterback in retrospect, but it does not change anything. Complaining about a problem without standing up to propose a solution is why great companies regress.

Less than ideal decisions of the past may have placed NIKE in a situation where adjustments are necessary to move forward. If NIKE cannot operate as one-team moving forward it will continue to fail to drive a competitive advantage. I have enjoyed my time at NIKE when things have been amazing the same as challenging because I feel competition makes us all better.

Be the change you wish to seek regardless if you are current NIKE or former NIKE. We all do not have the same paths and experiences. However, we all collectively control our individual futures.

This OP definitely a corporate uppy. So many words to say nothing at all, and all the corporate speak. "One team, Be the change..blah blah" lol. Either completely oblivious to what is happening or too high up to understand the issues plaguing the trenches.

Why would we be one team, if all the money goes to the top?

@vvg speaks the truth.

One team is too frequently conflated for “do what the boss says.”

The boss is an id--t and is responsible for us being here.

The best ideas have always come from the doers. The doers are now all fearful automatons.

“We are not currently performing at our best, and I ultimately hold myself and my leadership team accountable. That said, I have never been more confident in our leadership and team to drive the clarity and teamwork required to win.”

I agree that competition is a driver for many things and we have to be one team, but the world in general is a very different world than 2019. Period.
Nike isn't immune from many problems that face most corporations around the globe today.
The Covid era has exposed so many issues and has created so much anger and division, that you can barely make it through a grocery store trip without seeing conflict. Rich or poor, we're all human and the past few years have just su-ked. There's millions of people that are just surviving, not thriving. When the environment around you isn't thriving, not everyone can be the cheerleader.
We can't just go back to Nike normal, it no longer exists. We have to create a new normal with half the energy than what we had before.

I agree in spirit. But I get the feeling that you’re thinking of a bunch of meek yes-men. And that (alongside toxic unaccountable ELT) is exactly why Nike is losing a multi-generation brand dominance.

Tell your coworkers (nicely) if they have a d-mb idea. Stand up to your boss if they’re trying to make a bad decision.

Hey f**ktard,
Competition in arena and Hunger Games in real life are not the one and the same. Toxic competition will ki-l the fabric of our society. I can start with voting against the rich, wait and watch and how we take you down.
