Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Admins for Sr Directors?

One thing I think we can all agree on is that in the aftermath of all this, Sr Directors should no longer have Admin support. The idea that they are too important to manage their own calendars is fu_k_ng ridiculous . I saw an earlier post misguidedly maligning the admins. I’m sure the Admins would rather be doing other things as well!

What would happen if all the admins stopped working for a week?

Yeah…. I’m an admin and managing my (multiple) Sr. Directors calendars is the smallest part of my job. So if they did have to manage their own calendars….its not as big a punishment as you think it will be.

For those of you saying Admins should go too :) we’re literally the LEAST expensive person on any team. There’s rarely ever budget on a team for an admin and more than half of us are ETWs who are lead on with the promise of conversion. Which is CRAZY b/c we know…everything. Some of us support 4 people at a time and their entire teams.

If you think all we do is plan parties and spend money. Then I hope you appreciate and attend EVERY SINGLE EVENT YOU’RE INVITED TO. People who complain (OP is fine just making a point) about admins seriously must have too much time on their hands. Go do your job and stay the f*ck out of mine you condescending loser.

@1gpm+1raph8vB perhaps you should read the post again. What OP is saying is that Senior Directors should “grow up” and manage their own calendar like an adult to leave the admins to do higher value work. Do a re-read.

It sounds like OP is upset they have to manage their own calendar. Grow up.

Admins are the gods of this and every other company and while they be ‘assigned’ to a person they keep the whole team moving.

Our admin is a bully and barely shows up. How she’s been at it for ten years I don’t know

Admins aren't solely for managing calendars. They support the entire team under the Sr. Director. Sorry, I like our Admin and she does a good job taking care of the entire team.

I don't think that OP is suggesting admins don't have value nor that they should be laid off. I think they are suggesting that the leadership model may need to be revisited and Sr. Directors may have to do their own sh-t like everyone else.

OP has no idea what admins do. There are lots and lots and lots of bad admins out there… but great admins do heroic acts of calendar balancing that most of us would have no appetite for.

I haven't seen Sr. Directors with dedicated admin. The admin in the org I'm in supports several Sr. Directors' teams. I think she generates a lot of value because she can do a lot of things efficiently compared to each Sr. Dir, Dir, and each team figuring out how to do it.

This is a very weird takeaway. Get a hobby.

There are many senior directors only at Nike who has no reportings. Probably they have a couple of IC's reporting just for the sake of reporting. Senior directors are mostly ICs just been in that level for higher package and do nothing. Have seen many of them come in to engineer meetings on a daily cadence as they dont have a scoped role at leadership. Sr->sr->sr->sr-> vp

To be clear, I'm not suggesting that admins are laid off as a result of this. Admins plan parties (sorely needed), order food, help out with a variety of other tasks. My point is that Sr Directors are not important enough to warrant this. The hierarchy must be flattened if we as a company hope to survive.

Why on earth would that be something we could all agree on?

Scheduling for leaders is a big part of admin’s jobs.
