One of the single most important jobs of D/SD is to help you keep your job. It's in both their and yours interest that they are able to prove value, because if you get laid off, they are either getting demoted, transferred or laid off as well.

You know what my response is when someone asks me to feed data and insight into storytelling why my team and job is important during layoff situations? I do it - because that's a reasonable ask and in my best interest. Seriously don't get the pushback for being asked for participate in trying to keep your own job.

The managers & “sr” directors that suddenly started micromanaging because of the layoffs should just quit. They’re not fooling anyone. You don’t know how your department works or what value it brings to the table.

You as well? I am in Global Tech as well, and have hardly spend a minute in the past several months actually doing what is supposed to be my job. Instead it is a constant stream of make work, minutia and spoon feeding data so that senior management can understand how our work (if we were actually doing it) matters.

Perhaps a sign that management is just as worried about their future employment as the individual contributors. Quick, find a reason to justify meeeeeeee!
