Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Hey JD

Don't spend time trying to poll employees as to why your all hands speech fell flat.
Here's a clue as to why you're not leadership material.
You lack empathy
You lack a fundamental understanding of what made (past tense) Nike great.
Employees dont trust you and dont trust your leadership team.
Your aversion to risk has been crippling to a once-great brand.

@zrd - …and you don’t think the $30m/year guy is responsible for any of this? You don’t feel that he should have perhaps re-directed the ship to account for this challenging environment? Isn’t that his primary focus? He has had 4 years!!

Then there is the $5b stock buy-back farce… Rather than invest in the people, new technology, innovation, heck - build a new strategy altogether to ensure the company is on the right path, for all the reasons you highlighted. Rather, this disgusting use of company funds.

To add to what @lls+1rSBz4wF just said, Nike sells shoes and it is trying to sell shoes (overpriced) in a high inflation, high interest rate, high credit card debt environment when consumers are cutting down on discretionary spend. Nike is a consumer business. When the consumer cuts down, you cut down and reorient. These cuts were overdue. Overhiring and consumer habits during free money period cannot be expected to be the same during high interest rate periods. When consumers don’t spend, you can’t expect management to spend at the same clip as prior to high interest rates regime era aka free money period. It’s the same reason people aren’t buying Teslas and iPhones at the same clip anymore. Don’t understand why most Nike employees haven’t understood these basics, and keep harping about RIFs, management bungling and company culture. It’s turbulent times, and Nike isn’t the only one.

Nike sells shoes. That’s it. Stop fantasizing and pretending you are saving the world or something.

Jon the Con only wants to hear from employees on how awesome he is. Any other feedback is being thrown into the garbage.
