reskilling is anything that helps the impacted worker gain a new skill. It could be a simple as a subscription to linked in learning for a year after being laid off.
Let’s get realistic here for a moment. There is no “reskilling”. It’s the new execuspeak for laying people off in higher cost locations and moving those jobs to cheaper locations for cheaper younger hires. You have to quite naive to think they’re interested in retraining you.
Remember how in Q1 AH when CK said we will finish the year with the same number of employees as we started, thinking we weren’t clever enough to figure out what that meant? Notice the mental gymnastics that went into saying that rather than the much easier “people will keep their jobs “?
I know we all want to believe in the old SAP and the brilliant employee culture it once had, but it’s time to accept that is dead. This now is a stock price driven, shareholder focused company.
I’d guess “reskilling” means the vast majority of us will be laid off, with a handful of unrealistically low rank and low pay roles opened. Since they won’t be able to fill those roles in high cost of living areas, they’ll just outsource them to areas with low pay, like India.
I remember my team had the skills matrix questions and our L1 said the questions were not relevant to what we actually do. I am sure we will be laid off or shifted to a more fitting org unit.
We were all asked to complete the skills matrix (Oct 2023) and then an email was sent on the gaps with identified training
