Coming Back After Layoff

Just curious, does anybody know anyone who came back working at Enbridge after getting laid off? Is there like a certain period of time that you are not allowed to apply?

For those who came back, how long before you came back? Is it from employee to employee or employee to contractor? Why did you come back?

If you come back as a contractor how do you keep the tax man off your back? Assuming the benefit of being a contractor is the reduced income tax rate.

I took the VWO package back in 2020 and came back as a contractor a little over a year later. In regard to coming back as a fulltime employee, my severance package stipulated I would be eligible apply for any fulltime positions after a two-year waiting period.

Why would you want to come back? Enbridge is toxic and you would most likely be laid off again anyways.

During the voluntary period the text in the contract stipulated 2 years before you could reapply.

However, it's a soft rule. If they are in need, and you are the right person (or perhaps the only person), they'll make it happen earlier.

I don't think there's any rule about waiting to come back. I was laid off years ago and applied for several positions. I got a couple job offers, but at 20% - 25% less than what I was making before. Of course, I said 'No thanks'.

It's evident in the hiring process if someone was an Enbridge employee in the past. The hiring people leader would most likely check into past performance reviews and/or check with former people leaders. If those things dont work against you, there's no reason you wouldn't be hired again. A lot of people laid off are totally sh-t though.

Oh that’s not true. I know somebody who got let go, moved to another city, got on as a contractor with a different BU, and then somehow managed to find his a-s back as an FTE…and after two years damn near back to his former organizational position…just with a different business unit. Beyond that I do know of several, specifically after VWO, who found themselves weeks later working for the same business unit within weeks as contractors.

If any any employee comes back it would be as a contractor. If you're laid off you'll never come back as an Enbridge employee.
