Paid Sick Time (for those states this applies to)

has anyone noticed that the your paid sick time is now zero vs. your previous accrued time.

Last week I had 40 hours and now it's showing 0 hours available.

Most likely your 40 hrs carry over from last year that went away on 3/15

for groups that have policies around unplanned absence and start times, aren't their rules to curtail abuse? Such as after a certain number of sick days you need a doctor's note? I'm thankful to be exempt and in a roles where my management lets me make my own schedule.

Paid sick time is massively over abused from my observations.

Most common observation:
Paid sick time = Paid late arrival with no recourse

they do follow the laws and where required you are allocated time in a sick time bucket which when used you are granted all the legal rights this classification affords you, however it will also subtract time from your accrued PTO bucket. you will never get more than your allotted amount of PTO, it is just they earmark some of it for sick time.

It’s just awful that such a big company doesn’t even follow the minimum laws for paid sick time. This is a first world country, why do I need to worry about getting sick so I can take time off and go where I wanna go.

paid sick time is just for classification purposes. how they have gone about implementing it is a mess and causes much confusion. just know that you will never get extra time beyond your max PTO allotment. likely changed as part of March cutoff to use any carryover.
