Thread regarding Humana Inc. layoffs

All the things that are wrong with Humana right now

  • Micromanagement. Painful micromanagement with no point other than to annoy every single one of us in our team.
  • Incompetent leadership. We are led by a bunch of people who think layoffs are a viable way to keep boosting results. That's their long-term strategy. Enough said.
  • Toxic environment. If I'm having anxiety attacks before work, then you know there's something wrong with both the culture and the environment.

And so on and on...

Spot on! Certainly isn’t the direct managers, but upper mgt. It does not matter if your team performs well. Our team performed awesome when our leader had some authority to make decisions. She treated us with respect and our automatic response was to perform well! But it all looks planned, even Humana’s poor financial performance correlated with BB’s retirement. Setup for a sale? Definitely an eye-opener that the company does not care about its employees or its members. That BS was hard to swallow from the beginning.

You need to define more clearly who these leaders are that are micromanaging you. You know those metrics they collect on you? Well they are used to 'manage, score, rate and or RIF your direct manager.

Managers have not suddenly woken up and and said "hey guys I have an idea". The monitoring platform costs MILLIONS. This is the same software that's used bu Google, Microsoft, Costco and hundreds of other businesses. Your watchers are being watched. They are doing the same dance as you are. Going to work each day knowing that your team is under-performing, according to the latest KPIs is no fun. Culture is determined at the top and it IS a trickle down concept. Everyone above you on the food chain is subject to the same cr-p until it gets to the very top.

Seriously. You don't matter. In terms of results BB and the board get more accolades for removing you than for saving your job. This is what Wall Street expects. Drive down costs no matter what the workforce want.
