It's among the best in turning good employees into bad ones. Those who are stuck without any chance of progress while a-s-kissers build their careers simply stop working hard once they realize there's no use to it. Add to that a threat of layoffs and the fact that no matter how good you are you are not safe, there's really no incentive to be good and give it your all.

I have had many jobs but never worked with so many bottom of the barrel talent than at Nike. Coworkers whose only job seems to be organizing daily lunch trips and weekly happy hours. Nothing gets done and nothing progresses.
The people who actually had work and responsibilities got laid off while the party planners remain employed.
I fully agree! In our team, there is a few folks whose technical competence is majorly lacking. They barely know anything but they dress very well and take 2-3 hrs at lunchtime to socialize with others over an extended lunch.... The next thing you know they receive high five from VP! for an extra ordinary job they have stolen from their teammates! Sickening! Good soft skills and communication skills is something but Nike has taken this to a while new level of unlocking a-kisser and relationship-based rather than merit-based system
