Surpluss Severence & Discount Questions....

So, I should be off payroll by mid-May. Do you get your severance pay with that last check or is it a separate one that comes later? Also, I'm sure they tax the heck out of it like they do the bonus checks, correct?

Also - how long did it take until they kicked you off the cell/internet benefits. I'm estimating our bill will be going up $200 for our family of 4. We've definitely been spoiled and will have to shop around now. Just wondering how quickly the discounts disappear after you are off payroll.

Surplus on Sept. 8, received severance check on 10/20 and yes they taxed the sh*t out of it. I dropped cell and u-verse same day I was let go. Why would I want to keep anything to do with this effin company???

Severance comes separately, in 30-45 days after your last day. Mine came in 32 days. If you have Direct Deposit, it will be deposited there (same as your prorated bonus next year, just make sure to let them know if anything changes). If not, they'll mail a check.

It's taxed around 30%.

For the discount, it comes off pretty much right on or maybe a day after your last day on payroll. They don't mess around with that, need every penny back they can get.

For your Medical, it will most likely continue for up to 6 months, but this depends on some factors. You should find out more when your time comes.

Dental and Vision will be canceled on the first day of the following month after your last day on payroll.

To answer the question about was I one is the ones that said no to moving…initially I was told I was able to move last May but when I got the official word a few weeks ago, that offer was off the table and I was just surplused. Apparently, a lot of people were in the same boat. Good thing we weren’t planning on moving annyway and had started that process.

You've not all been spoiled. You've been overpaying.

Better deals off the street (significantly better deals) with any of the MVNO's. Mint, Visible, Consumer Cellular, Xfinity Mobile, Charter Mobile, etc.

T Mobile will also beat your big "employee discount". It's a joke.

If you are management, do not count on receiving all of your unused vacations days. You will only be paid for the vacation days you have accrued thru your last day on payroll and have not used. As far as the severance check, it is paid anywhere from 30 to 45 days after off payroll and taxed at approx 22% Fed and then any state, if applicable, as well as SS, etc. You can also defer it if you like to 2025 and if you do defer, it will be paid in the February/March 2025 timeframe. Discounts take about 2 bill cycles to drop off. All of this info, and more, will be included in your severance information. Recommend you print everything and put it in a binder for future reference.

The severance check will be paid out about 45 days after you exit. I was paid my regular check on the 6th, check on the 21st was weekdays from the 1-8th when I left. Nothing the following 6th and then severance on that next 21st pay period.

Go to TMob. If you don't like the price, get up to leave and say you'll think about it a few days. They'll rummage in a drawer and find more discounts to hook you.

You can do way better than T.

If I recall correctly, the last regular check was on the regular cycle, but the severance check was an actual check mailed via USPS and it was about a month later. It was highly taxed but there were no other deductions, no 401k, no medical insurance, etc.

I was MR75 when it still meant we could keep retiree medical, and that was a phone call with the Benefits Dept on setting up payments, what to keep or drop, etc.

Discounts like wireless lagged a month or two maybe, but it wasn't worth it, much higher than T-Mob or the several resellers.

Talked to a former team member who got axed in December about sequence for checks and am told final check and severance are separate, but follow normal payday cycle, so for example if I get 2 week notice this Friday, I would be off payroll 4/5, which is also a payday, then final check with unused vacation etc next normal payday which would be 4/19, and then the highly-taxed severance on the next payday after that, so 5/6. Not sure how quick they are at cutting off cell/internet, but I'm also across MR75 line, so when my turn comes I'll get whatever sad little discount remains for that while I figure out next steps.
