Copper reclamation

How has this process changed as to where it is financially viable? Remember years ago when this was attempted. Busted duct runs where the cable couldn’t be pulled out, incorrect records where customers were put out of service, etc. Understand a lot has changed since then as far as number of customers in the copper, etc, but what processes have changed to alleviate those issues? Or has it reached a point where they don’t care about a few customers losing service? And are the various departments being kept in this loop ie, DEG/AP for example. Remember a time when Construction would abandon a cable and AP wasn’t made aware and they were still getting alarms and dispatching on fraudulent alarms.

Will Schutts and Susan Johnson's org are out there scraping the dumpster to get it going, but they are too busy firing people to care.

As always it comes down to records, current process starts with engineering, they send it to the CO to verify in FOMS, switch and remove dips, then back to eng. who sends it to construction. They should also do their due diligence before winching on any cable too, doesn’t take long to verify at SAI/Xbox or other accessible locations. From experience, don’t believe what the lead or any tag says on any cable, verify.

There aren’t any guarantees but a lot of copper is now vacant due to decommissioning of RT equipment, consolidation of workers and fiber overlays. If the company can make a little profit or break even then why not before they are forced to remove them. It’s a win for PR and they can do it at their pace, if forced then, it will require a lot more money with OT for techs and contractors.

Nothings changed! Reclamation in proceed in SE region, broke a winch line, 2 chains, etc, engineering says it not in service, print states clearly In diagram box “ cut cable, wait fir an outage, if none come in OOS, then remove cable” I&M shows up 3 days later, after we’ve removed about a miles worth! Lol! Yet they are grading us!
