Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

I can’t sleep

Uggggg. I’m wide awake. Stressed. My stomach feels like it’s been punched. I may in fact be fine or this week will bring lots of change being laid off. I have no idea what direction it will be. This uncertainty is awful. Just awful. I just want to know if I’m out the door or sticking around. How am I supposed to even get anything done at work this week? Seriously I’m supposed to stay focused and do my work? Keep my head down? With all this hanging over me? WTF. Seriously WTF.

I was awake from 4am on and all I could do was write an email in my mind to JD over and over. Telling him how awful he is at his job. Ask him to do the honorable and leave our company before he destroys it more.
He has wasted hundred of millions of dollars strategy in the last 4 years and has given us nothing in return except corporate nonsense that PK despised.
He is not a Footwear guy. He is a boardroom guy. Never should have been hired.

I feel for anyone experiencing the extreme stress/anxiety of waiting to see if they're among the 5% laid off. And even for those of us that survive this round, the relief is temporary until the next round of layoffs a few short weeks later.

I honestly think the only thing that will fix this mess is if we all strike and/or move to the public sector - only when corporations lose enough talent they can't easily backfill will things change and not a moment before then. We as workers have so much more power than we think we do, but they've got us distracted viciously fighting each other for scraps in these endless rounds of hunger games rather than banding together to demand better collectively.

JD recently said in an all-hands that he holds himself and his ELT accountable for this mess. Cool story bro but I haven't seen a single ELT member offer to forego their bonus to save their team members' jobs.

I had a nightmare last night and I’ve been awake since 430. The stress is eating at my soul. Nothing getting done this week.

Old parents to support, Have a toddler that needs health insurance. Losing Visa means, have to pack everything and leave. I gave my best, over the years, never was aggressive enough to ask for a raise. But it’s irresponsible for execs to be playing this type of skewed capitalist game on people that are month to month.

Please dont compromise on your sleep or health..layoff is not in your control, sleep and health is in your control which is needed for long run..life is not only about one company and one job...so dont worry and overthink and wait for the outcome by being positive..good luck!sleep well

It’s totally unreasonable to expect that we simply focus on our work in response to the prospect of being laid off, as per the Workvivo information. I’ve noticed meetings being cancelled, folks declining invitations, etc. Nobody can focus while this is hanging over us!

None of us asked for this so we need to show ourselves compassion. Most of us won’t be able to do much, but until we know for sure, we still have work to do tomorrow. Give 10% if that’s all you can.

If you’re ever trying to find opportunities to practice mindfulness, this is a great opportunity. You can worry yourself to death and it won’t change the outcome good or bad… Sometimes I think about the worst possible outcome and then accept that. Once I can accept that, my mind can work a little better. Anyway..
