Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

What advise would you give to someone who wants to work at a global apparel brand?

Would you recommend Nike? The recent media makes it sound... well, not great.

I would tell them not to ask for advice on an anonymous layoff forum during an active layoff.

Just don’t.

Get a boring job that’s useful across multiple industries; marketing, osha, heavy machinery operator, commercial plumber, …

The best careers are boring as dirt but just as reliable. You can always count on dirt to catch your a-s when the world falls out from under you.

I would recommend they don’t go into apparel. It’s a limited career path with minimal company’s, a lot of drama and not that great of locations to live.

If I had to do it over again I would’ve gone into digital marketing. Much broader options and better cities and pay

The fact that you would use this forum to ask this question is pretty tone-deaf. Seriously. Read the room.

That you work for Wall Street, not the brand.

Nike has inspiring senior leaders that provide clear strategy and direction. If your interested in Tech I would suggest the clearest path would be to work your way up through Kohls.

Just read any of the threads on this site and you’ll get your answer. I’m seriously considering leaving Nike even if I survive this round of layoffs. The racism, backstabbing and win-at-all-costs culture is toxic.
