Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

PTO

I heard HR is looking into people’s time off utilization over the past 6 months to a year. Supposedly they’re trying to terminate people instead of giving them severance on grounds of stealing time.

I heard this through another team’s manager. Not sure how true it is though.

You people realize that from a technology perspective Nike has absolutely no idea what it’s doing, right?

Other companies are 100% doing this sort of thing because they actually have connected systems and people that know how to use them.

Nike’s technology is barely functional. There are all sorts of things that are technically possible (like checking VPN location) that I’m certain Nike has no ability to do because of how poorly put together the systems are.

Never heard of this. They would've done this a long time ago if they were.

Can someone verify? Have they actually heard if this is true or not? Or if they know of someone this has happened to?

Wouldn’t it be nice if they finally cracked down on employees who feel entitled to a 10am start time, hour lunch, and 2pm exit while lying about “taking the last meeting from home”

Those of us who put in the time will be left standing.

Pathetic and desperate.

Microcosm of this company: from wolf to lamb. Floundering and insecure.

What’s next - parking charges?

I know of some cases where as recently as Jan 24 folks have worked at the ITC when HR specifically prohibited this. Is the employee and the manager at risk then?

I'm not sure it is PTO they are focusing on, as someone mentioned above I have heard they are potentially checking badge access and VPN access. For anyone who is not 'remote' the expectation is you are in the office and in your home 'state'. If you are working in Arizona but are suppose to be in SF and collecting SF wages that could be a way to terminate without a severance. It will be interesting to see how they handle those situations as many people moved durning covid but kept a mailing address in their state of employment. But I also do know of a few people who didn't move post covid and were recently given one more 'chance' to relocate to the correct home office, and told they would be expected in the office 4 days per week.

These are the same people who told us we may not have a job in January, 4 days before Christmas. I wouldn’t put it past them.

There are hourly employees and employees who give them time off without having to use PTO. To save money (and they need to), it could be a strategy.

LMAO there is no way HR is taking the time to do this. It would take forever and also be extremely ineffective. Stop lying.

I as a manager have asked my employees to take a day or 2 off to compensate for the extra time they spent firefighting an issue over the weekend, spending extra hours before any major release, or working around the clock during the Holiday rush. Yes, the HR will not see any logins and will not see any PTO for those days. We are all exempt employees and the hours don't apply to us. Stop spreading false narratives.

How I read it, it seems like HR is questioning people or figuring out via the managers if so and so took that day off and didn’t send in the PTO.

I feel like this is on the manager for not verifying someone took off. I don’t think it’s a simple task for HR

How in the he-l can they fire salaried employees for “stealing” time?

We work 60 hour weeks during Black Friday and 35 hour weeks during summer hours.

Work when there’s work and work until it’s done.

Butts in seats management is a sign that your leadership has no idea how the business is actually run.
If they want to burn me out sweeping floors to keep my hands busy I’ll be happy to only work 9-5 during Black Friday

Yes it does. If the company can document you were not in an office or logged on to the network for mutiple days that would confirm you were not working & not using PTO.

That said its more likely The Swoosh is checking where you have been logging into the network from to determine your location of work. If you've been VPNing in from SF and you place of work is Beaverton and you did not change your address w/HR that's a fireable offense.

You have put the company in harms way by working from a different state w/o getting agreement it was approved because company is out of compliance relate to wage & hour, insurance, ect. If you work somewhere for any extended period of time at an address different that registered w/HR.
