Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

There will be 3 categories for layoffs..

  1. Category 1: The “I’ve been busting my hump for this company and truly don’t deserve this” category. You all have my full sympathy
  2. Category 2: The “ I have not been doing a damn thing for years and don’t even have a real job but hey, it’s been a good ride” category. Do not pass go, do not collect $200, just leave please
  3. Category 3: same as category 2 except “my buddy will bring me back as an ETW after this whole thing blows over, heck, I might even get hired again if I lay low enough” …. Tip of the hat to you my friend.

May the odds be with you and by the way, next time your co-worker gets emotional and talks about being there for each other, ask them how many of the people who got laid off last time they still keep in touch with?

I left nike 2.5 years ago, because I was relocating somewhere else. To be fair I have missed the vibes (I was in Europe) and the friendships. but the last 7 years going through 3 reorgs were quite impactful on morale and relationships. Nike will probably always be there, but if you ask me i don't think it's different from any other company no more. I spent almost 20 years there, and at one point I really thought this was a unique place to be. Not a family, a company of 70K people can never be your family, but special for sure. not anymore.

I stay in touch with several impacted colleagues to see how they are and send potential job opportunities I think will interest them. Don't lump us all together as a--holes.

There are no real friends at Nike. Definitely not after layoffs and often just from you wanting to switch job roles or departments. Once someone cant leverage your work for their own career gain, you might as well be a leper. I never drank all the kool aid so it didnt bother me too much. However, I had colleagues who their whole lives revolved around the company. They were devastated when their "friends" stopped answering emails and phone calls.
