Thread regarding Verizon Wireless layoffs

Verizon retail weather safety

Apparently there have been numerous complaints called into HR and corporate about employee safety around the country this past week. Weather has been treacherous the past month and there has been a total disregard for employee safety. DM’s and Directors having employees traveling in blizzards , flooding and even tornado warnings exclaiming “ BAU “ from the comfort of their homes. When did employee safety get completely thrown out the door? What will and can be done about this?

I remember back when I worked in NYC and taking the train to the office from out of state only for people who lived a few blocks away not to show up who were directors and above.

They never had to follow the same rules here or anywhere else I ever worked.

The stay at home Directors and Dm s have had their meeting to discuss if the stores open today. In there infinite wisdom they have announced that the stores will open at noon. What for? Maybe a snow plow operator that broke or lost his phone in the snow will come in? I know its controversial to some but the frontline feel no one cares in these situations. I believe the call outs will be high today.

I quit last year. I like to check these forums to confirm that I made the right decision. Can I just say, best decision of my life! And now reading some of these posts I can confirm it over and over.

Any reps who feel depressed and unmotivated need to look real hard at themselves. I made $10k less a year, 9 years working for the company than the first few years I started with them. They always make the new commission structure sound so good but then they make the quota unrealistic so you make the same or less with more metrics. I always knew the commissions were all smoke and mirrors when my friend started working for ATT. He told me exactly how much he got paid for each individual sale. That's when you realize the "bucket" system is just a way to mask the fact that each sale will really net you some pocket change. Management knows it but they hope you don't figure it out. Not saying you can't do the math but maybe you should so you can see what an absolute conjob it is. Hans is so out of touch with reality and the company never got better. POS Systems were always an obstacle keeping me from making money and hitting metrics. And the higher price for cellular service isn't even justifiable now. You can get the same coverage with T-mo and ATT. Verizon has lost its way years ago. Everything is outsourced to another country and when you promise your stock holders more profits but can't charge more to your customers then who do you steal from? Your employees. Do yourself a favor and call out sick as often as you want and don't feel bad. Or just quit and save yourself the mental anguish. All my friends I met from working for Verizon (that no longer do) have PTSD from working there. Wait til you get a new job elsewhere and your shocked that your company takes care of you.

Just to show how out of touch, who ever forecasts individual store quota's and Management who arbitrarily sign off on them. It’s January 20th and one rep is around 40%to quota the other reps anywhere from 25% to 35%. Last Month because of traffic down I’m told by -20%The highest rep was 85% to quota. So yesterday a few reps were brought into the Managers office and given their mostly verbal warning’s. December quota was unattainable. They are blaming the front line on factors out of their control. This month is becoming a nightmare with not many people walking in to buy. The promotions for upgrading stinks because most have to add $20 for a new plan to get the trade in deal and that’s if they have the right model phone. The revenue you get on an upgrade is so minimal it’s morale busting. Admit your mistake on how you come up with individual and store quota because it’s obviously an outdated measurement!

We’re then left to close our stores BAU, and scavenge for hurricane supplies afterward.

like you have no warning there is a hurricane in the forecast?

@7vys+1quxDcM9 Just make sure you you fill out your Pulse Survey!!! My personal trick is to fill out the verbatims, ignoring the actual question & answering with statements Leadership needs to hear from the trenches! I never turn them into a whine fest or pity party but position items that are keeping the Company from achieving its goals.

We’ve had entire state of emergency’s issued by the governor for the state of Florida for numerous hurricanes in the past and we stayed open. Verizon doesn’t care they will tell you we are an essential business, and it’s just another golden opportunity for them to sell a few mophie packs/car chargers. We’re then left to close our stores BAU, and scavenge for hurricane supplies afterward.

Former employee here. It looks like nothing has changed in terms of January sales flow and procedures. Post holiday traffic brings a cringeworthy slowdown and people making up leads to hand off to business, only to be told later that the leads are basically useless. We used to stand by the window and write down the name and number for any local business trucks just to get people off our backs.

As for inclement weather policies, it probably depends on the area. If you are in a place where some snow and ice shuts your city down and the mayor is telling you if you don’t need to be out, don’t go out, then your store should be closed.

The sham continues. Yesterday MLK day our store was open 10am to 5pm and approximately 10 people walked thru the front door(suburban store NYC area)It is halfway through the month and we have one rep at 40% to quota while everyone else at 20% to 35% Most reps are striving to get over 50% to make a commission. We have a new rep who finally admitted: "if this continues I'm going back to restaurant work" I think that says everything The micromanaging is unrelenting and now creating leads for people already been to the store
Morale sinking lower than ever Nice job

@lda+1quxDcM9 Some very good points. First off the OP's weather comments are spot on. They usually do a late opening/early closing based on weather severity. The last few months this has not been the case. In the Northeast for instance there was a recent storm that dumped over a foot of snow in most areas. It was all business as usual but you can imagine how many employees took a sick (snow) day because of how dangerous the storm was. As far as your statements about quotas go i couldn't agree more. There were many markets that were down 15-20% in December but did they adjust the already ridiculously high quotas? Nope...stuck it to everyone again. One thing is for sure, they are super consistent with having an unfair commission structure.

If anybody thought they would be making more money on individual commission team, they need to quit drinking the Kool-Aid. Anybody with a brain could see that the company was going to make the quota so fu--ing high there be no way to hit it.

Thank you for bringing this up. This has been happening for a few years now, total disregard for employees safety and stores completely empty of customers while 8 employees look at each other as the snow builds up on the roads. I'll bring up another point. Quotas being too high for the amount of volume coming into the stores, management is completely out of touch with reality. They claimed that the frontline will make more commission than team sales? So far not true because of the Quotas being so high,I know each store has different Quotas because of staffing but when a rep does over 60 gross adds ( including pull thru ) made $800 in commission. It's just not right
