Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

What you really need to know during a layoff

  1. Ask for all the perks to include your phone, computer and health insurance
  2. Take time before signing and talk to an attorney; your severance might increase
  3. Ask what happens going forward for you and your team and if you can consult
  4. Ask everything! Take notes beforehand so you’re prepared.
  5. Think before you speak. Be well prepared.

Worst case, take serious time off for yourself if you can afford it. A month minimum.

If you can’t afford that time, rock it! You got this! Take time later and reflect.

Only talk to an attorney if you have a serious and legitimate reason to do so. Oregon is an at-will employment state, so unless you have a legitimate legal grievance AND you can prove it, the vast majority of attorneys will tell you to take the package and move on.

Getting terminated is a gut punch and a lot of people will have an instinct to somehow fight back. You may think “This is unfair and I didn’t deserve it. Especially given everything I’ve done for this company. I need to right this wrong!” Feeling this way is totally normal. But again, unless you have been legally wronged and you have a lot of receipts backing up your claim, an attorney won’t be able to help you.

No, I’m not a HR plant. Just someone speaking from personal experience.

I was in a company where we had layoffs every year for 4 straight years and then at the end everyone was gone.

You need to have an updated resume all the time, I don’t know why you people are so surprised by this, we promised shareholders and build dream
Houses by depending on China for our growth, it’s shameful
