Thread regarding Enbridge Inc. layoffs

When is the big day?

Anyone have any idea when the layoffs are scheduled to happen? We sense that it will be very soon. Will it be voluntary or involuntary? A mix of both?

I don’t see the 0 year amortization going through. The Ontario government has already begun the process of overturning it.

The 0 year amortization on new services should concern NPL more than gas techs at Enbridge. The OEB wants a focus on more maintenance on existing pipe.
The VWO program gave anyone willing to leave some cash regardless of years of service. But ya it would make more sense to offer a buy out to senior unionized staff first.

I heard that senior unionized staff will be offered packages to go. That would make way more sense than cutting the short tenured union staff.
I can’t speak for office staff, but it’s the young guys that are the hardest working (with exceptions of course). Why would you cut someone who actually works and keep someone who literally takes up space?

I don't know if you can assume that the union is protected if the OEB decision means the work dissappears. A zero year customer assumption means it's no longer a given that new houses go gas. What the heck do you think the CAC will do if there are no customers?

What GDS report was confirmed yesterday?
No one works on Wednesdays or Fridays!

I heard union staff with 2 years or less could be impacted. Maybe not across the board because there are different locals with different agreements. End of February, early March is the timing.

Unionized can't be affected because of the layoff clauses. The only thing that may change is boundaries and border areas may become amalgamated like how Burlington was assumed into GTA West from Hamilton. GDS reorg was confirmed today.

Are you referring to LEG gas techs? Only LUG regions refers to USRs. What announcement and where is this announcement found?

VPC in Toronto has announced they are doing major cuts to the USR personnel numbers and their budget

They're getting hit hard, doesn't mean it will be all terminations but there will be reductions in numbers/positions. People they want to keep will be moved elsewhere otherwise there will be casualties. The plan is to combine operating areas and reduce the overall number of areas. Hence, fewer managers and supervisors. End of February is the timing for layoffs.

I don’t think operations is going to get hit hard. The ORB decision gave O&M dollars and a note that the Company is to focus on extending the lifespan of current assets. That’s also supported by the huge cut in capital.

they have no need to wait until Stip is paid. you should get your STIP as you would have if you are terminated. If not get legal advice before signing anything

I heard a rumour it is January 15. And it definitely does not involve the manager level for any decisions.

But can they start cuts due to the new acquisitions before that deal officially closes? I think there might be two - one now due to the OEB decision and one later to account for the duplication from the new gas distribution companies?

My guess is it will be by end of Q1. I hope it will be in the form of another VWO where employees that want to leave can put their hand up but I don’t think that’s how this will go. With the newest acquisition there will be 2 IT depts, HR depts, etc and so it will likely be specific positions that are cut. Maybe age will be a factor too.

Curious as to how they decide who to let go? Is it a managers choice? Or other factors involved.

Definitely happening, some already know they are done. Hearing the end of January but it would make sense that once STIP is paid the ax will fall.

Reorg coming late January, then some people will get moved around. Then the axe.

Would be surprised if there are any voluntary options... Last I recall the last voluntary exit paid pretty well

Involuntary and you’ll receive your package immediately after your STIP. So late February.
