Looks like we're going to make it for at least a week in 2024 with no layoffs. Color me shocked.

I only announce layoffs on Fridays so you lowly wage slaves won't slack during the week. TGIF indeed!
We prefer to layoff on Fridays at the end of day to prevent workplace incidents.

Week ain't over yet, and there have been layoffs on Thursdays/Fridays before.

Your shocked color Wow will soon fade to the pale color Layoff. As it is now painfully obvious, the very successful actions of trimming both the excessive employee headcount and obsolete bank branches are working well enough now to allow the shedding of more selected buildings/properties/locations (Roanoke eg.).
The handwriting is on the wall. 2024, Year of the Axe!
