Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Question for those who have been laid off before…

Assuming that I might be laid off, what are some things I should look to get done over the next month if not weeks, what are the things you regret not doing before you left and what are the things I might as well stop doing.

Thanks

Regarding FSA— nope. It’s on the employer, not the employee. Go forth and use all your FSA funds.

Max out your 401k contributions and drop a deuce in the fountain off of Murray....

I thought FSA dollars were charged to you per paycheck and broken up the entire year. If you use more than what you’ve contributed, you owe it back. Anyone know?

Make sure your swoosh log in isn’t your nike email address. You keep the discount if you have worked there more than 5 years.
And spend all your FSA MONEY

If you have a Mac, i would airdrop your work. Its is traceless vs downloading

Do NOT download any of your work to your personal devices. Nike owns all of it and they are watching. Every time anything is downloaded it is flagged and w/ the Q2 earnings layoff announcement they are looking at all activity. If you plug in a USB you might as well just walk into the CIS control room and offer yourself up to be fired - they track USB extremely closely.

If you give them a reason to fire you rather than lay you off you’ll regret it because they will. I work in this space so I’m not being dramatic when I tell you they are watching for just this kind of action and will come for you.

Load up on any doctor's/dentist/vision appointments now and use up your FSA dollars asap (mine were available until the last calendar day of the month that I was laid off).

Adding: I've been laid off more than once and each time I thought it was the worst thing that happened to me. And yet each time I landed something better - less toxic work environment + higher salary + fresh chapter. There's a good life beyond Nike and now that I'm on the other side, they couldn't pay me any amount of $ to go back to that place lol. Sending love to all!

It depends on your savings and current expenses (and if you have a partner who can pick up the slack), but I would actually decrease my 401k contributions right now to have a little extra cash on hand. If you make it through February, you can increase the contributions again.

Also, keep spending as low as possible. Cook at home, get books from the library, exercise outside, etc.

Apply to any job you're remotely qualified for and stay on top of ones that email back (aim for at least 5 per day).

Be sure your LinkedIn is up-to-date.

Clean up your social presence (lockdown Facebook/IG etc.), as lots of future employers will look at this before getting back to you.

Chin up, the next chapter will likely surprise you with how good it is so deep breath and all eyes on the future.

Grab as much of your personal belongings from the office, as as mentioned already - download as much of your work and files as you do lose computer access immediately.

Also, if you did like me and used your nike.com email for important things, get changing those email addresses to a new non-Nike one. I was unable to access some pages after I was laid off as the password reset or validation code for logging in/changing my email was sent to nike address. Annoying!

Oh and, all the best, I am hopeful you don’t even get caught up in this mess and manage to continue your career with the Swoosh

Change your 401k to the max match you can NOW so you get to the threshold early in the year and don’t leave the company match on the table

Any advice on the financial or benefits side?

Make a plan for how you’ll spend your time unemployed. Obviously apply for jobs, but there are only so many.

Work out, volunteer, visit family. If you sit at home and doomscroll all day you’ll go insane.

Download your work / examples for your personal use - once you’re laid off your email is completely shut off so you won’t be able to.
