So...I worked in corporate verizon for years. When I left (I quit) I was in management. Anyway. After jumping around a few employers. I stopped into an indirect vzw to inquire about employment. I ended up taking the job. Bullsnit aside. I did enjoy the job. Working in indirect. I feel like I left the military to be an independent contractor now. Lol. It's pure sales. I don't have to deal with the bureaucracy and politics that you deal with in corporate. I'm also making so much more. I'm looking at a $7k+ commission check. Most I ever pulled pre-covid was $4400.

That’s not how taxes work. Regardless of commissions or hourly/salary, your tax bracket is your tax bracket at tax time. Commissions get appears to taxed more because of the rate per check. At tax time, you pay what you pay or get back if you overpaid based on your income bracket. If one is concerned about commissions being taxed more then exempt and manage it appropriately.
Betcha I know who this person is that made this post lol
Incorrect. If you know how to manage your taxes it's not. You just drank the koolaid and lick windows. Those of you who let them tax you at 22% (it's called at W4) you get that back at tax time. If they started including commissions in regular paychecks its not taxed at that higher rate. They only pay the commission in a separate check to make sure you're taxed more. Its a sneaky way to shove it in without spitting on it. More earnings = more taxes because that's how math works. I'd rather earn $80k in an indirect than earn $45k at corporate. Corporate does an at risk. Most indirect do a percentage based on total sales. No at risk. You have goals to hit multipliers based on total sales.
If 75% of your at risk commission was distributed hourly and there was no commission, you’d come out with more money than hitting 100% of your at risk commission due to taxes. More hourly is better
OP here.
The PTO isn't as good, but I'm on a 4 day work week and if I need time off for something important. I get it. As far as insurance. It's all about the same. Verizon corporate insurance is @$$ anymore. It went way down hill. Increased premiums and lowered coverages YOY has degraded it The dental coverage for corporate isn't even enough to cover the cost of going to the dentist.
If I'm making $30-$40k more per year. I can actually afford to pay the medical bills and still be on top.
The only thing that was better in corporate was PTO, but when it comes time for my review/rasies. I'm going to ask for more PTO instead of money. Betcha I'll get it. Although, I'd take a lower hourly for higher commissions and other benefits.
Idk about you all, but I don't go to work for PTO. I go for money.
I actually have a better work/life balance in my favor at the AR. I wish I had left sooner.
If one is looking for a pure hustle sales job and make a huge commission checks and not have to worry about pto, work life balance, and even insurance, then an agent or indirect is the place to be. Some of these young 20 somethings are pulling in 10k per month regularly . But it is a sweat shop like the car dealership.
how's the health insurance and paid time off?
