Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

All the new promotions are interesting.

Not sure if anyone else has noticed but in my LinkedIn connections I have noticed a lot of “I’m happy to announce I have been promoted to VP of (insert role here)”. This is exhausting already. Layoffs were announced on December 21 during/after earnings and now all these id--ts are being “promoted” to be safe?

This is insane to say the least.

At least for VIP LEVEL it does not required to post and interview. Talking about saying one thing and do another when it comes to diverse hiring practices. All jobs up to 50 need to be posted and interview. It’s a slap on your face when someone appoints a person from 40 to 50 without following the process

ever notice how those vps never update their profiles when they're no longer in that position any more once they get fired or laid off or took a lesser role

Half of the VPs out there operate as Senior Directors (and new ones at that)

Reports to continue their empire building, pathetic DEI initiatives, and nepotism.

Nike is going through a multi-track process that includes layoffs to save money and make the investors happy with short term cosmetic actions while also going through yet another major reorg.

The reorg part means that although many people have been and will be laid off, there will also be a certain number that will be promoted and some that will be demoted. It makes sense that you're seeing VPs announced first since it's a top down sequence. I wouldnt be surprised if you see Senior Director and Director promotion announcements in 2024 as well.

It's a bit of a mind f$#&# to see promotions going on now while so many of us are worrying about losong our jobs but it makes sense from a corporate org planning perspective. This doesn't mean the actions taken or the promotions given are necessarily warranted or earned of course.

@op yes I have seen a lot of this in my feed as well on LinkedIn. These people clearly cannot read the room and are clearly not self aware.

Sometimes companies promote folks to set them up for failure. The promotion will take them off jobs to be completed by someone else. If the VP or Director can't handle the new role, the hope is to make them so miserable that they will quit or else they fail so miserably that they will be put on probation which eventually lead to firing due to performance issues.

In November, NDP promoted a bunch of people while simultaneously laying off 40.

Early in the Pandemic they said how they where going to reduce the number of VP, pretty sure we have way more than we had then (even though a large portion of VP do not add any value at all)
