We need to do a much better job of identifying and then promoting people who know what they're doing and who have the experience to do the job. I'm so tired of seeing people get promoted based on who they know or how good they are at brown-nosing. No wonder we are losing the best people. Who'd want to stay at a place where they're not appreciated and have no career prospects?

We seem to be very good at promoting failure here. If you can write pretty word documents and make up bullsh-t, you're management material here. Knowledge of the job or industry not required
This is cronyism and patronage in action.
Manager? What's that?
They are more worried about where you are located or how often you are in office than how good you actually are at your job. The best people in my group were almost all remote, and they could not be considered for advancement. Only a couple are left, and they aren't the ones who would want/seek/deserve a promotion.
