Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

All the ELT need to go

Is it possible to bring us back to an employee owned company? That would be the best bet to being great again. And we’d save a ton on salary. A TON! The CEOs make way too much and don’t deliver sh-t. We do the work and they get paid? There has to be a way for us to reverse this. What do the ELT do? Where are their results? Sounds like they are Charlie Brown teacher’s to me. Wah wah wah

What do you mean “bring us back”? Nike was never employee owned.

Yes the SLT is paid too much. What’s new? Until legislation is passed heavily taxing excessive executive pay relative to average employee pay that problem will only worsen as it has for several decades now.

Vote with your feet and leave. I did. I’m glad I left too because from what I hear morale is at an all-time low. Working at a company on its way up is fun. Working at that same company on its way down isn’t so fun. Nike took its eye off the things that matter and started focusing on several things that don’t matter or matter much less. You’re now seeing the results as upstart competitors steal Nike’s lunch money.

Under previous leadership Nike was able to right the ship when it mattered. But even they would acknowledge as Phil did in Shoe Dog that in several instances the company just got lucky. The thing about luck is, it eventually runs out. That’s when the lower quality of overpaid senior management really exposes itself.

Warren Buffet said “If you want to fix America’s spending problem pass a law making Congressmen ineligible for reelection if there’s a budget deficit. They’ll fix the problem quickly.” Likewise if you want to fix Nike’s problems someone should submit a proposal to the board that if Nike is not profitably growing in at least 90% of its verticals, executive management compensation will be capped at $300K/year. They’ll start focusing on the right things and will fix the problem quickly.
