Thread regarding Humana Inc. layoffs

Experience with being noticed

I was impacted by the RIF in IT on January 10th. My last day at Humana is March 11th. I received a meeting invite from the VP of our department titled “Quick Touchbase” on a random Wednesday around noon. I’ve never spoken to the VP, so the meeting was very impromptu. You couldn’t forward the meeting to anyone. The meeting was a webinar, not a traditional zoom meeting, so you couldn’t see who was on the call, or type in the chat, or unmute yourself. The VP read from a script, informed me that I was laid off, and said that it wasn’t performance based. After he was done talking, an HR rep was on the call, and she explained our severance details and provided us with a link with all of the information. The entire call felt insincere and very cold. The entire call lasted about 30 minutes. The tricky part is, you don’t know when you’ll be notified that you’ll be laid off, or when you will receive the meeting invite. It su-ks. (@nqp+1qYOMMqq)

Putting this up for all who wonder how it goes.

This su-ks how it was done but lawyers made it that way. VP and HR was just doing their job.

BUT, I do know that unless we change something about our current staffing situation, this will continue.

I know in one department we can axe at least SEVEN individuals and replace them with two competent ones with the right skills.

We can’t keep promoting people we know instead of ones who can do the job.

A couple of years ago, in late October 2021, multiple departments under clinical ops were called to a large meeting early on a Friday morning where they were informed they were impacted. Only one leader, a VP, on the call and not even the VP for everyone impacted. HR did the talking. Since it was such a large meeting and people were told in this manner, there were many that were confused and upset. Many good people were RIFed, in fact, entire departments gone in an instant. Usually if it’s a larger group, the notice comes on a Thursday or a Friday.

Happened again in Feb. Will happen again in March. Super impersonal and not like the company I started with many years ago. The ratings are flawed. Incredibly subjective. Agree that C suite out of touch. Unfortunately Customers and employees impacted so the company can continue to profit billions.

Awful. How many people were on the zoom call being RIFed?

Is HR so busy they can't do individual meetings to even RIF an associate they once supposedly valued?

Not sure I want to be part of a "family" that treats the poorest among them with such little regard.

They did that in the past two RIFs

I’m so sorry. That approach seems very cold blooded and insincere. Upper leaders are out of touch and really don’t care about the people doing the work. Without the other bees, they would be sunk. It’s funny that all of our systems are having issues post RIF notice!!!
